dude goes to Providence...a school that produced offensive stars like Fernando Pisani, Joe Hulbig, Paul Guay and Tom Fitzgerald

not exactly a who's who of great stars

I definitely think he should be rated higher than 7.5C, but the fact of the matter is that this kid is about as raw as they get. Before this year he had never played against any worthy competition, and at the same time his body has undergone huge changes in the past two years. Not many on this board can debate his talent though, this kid has great hands, a high level hockey IQ, and does not shy away from the dirty areas at all. If somehow he can simply stack some muscle on that frame and begins to understand how to use his new found frame he could be a beast. Understanding the circumstances of last years draft I have no problem with taking Djanko, because if all the stars align right this kid will for sure be a true #1 centerman in this league.

Kind of silly to write off Jankowski's upside. I think the HF rating of 7.5D is fair, but I think 7.5C would be more accurate. People think he's way more boom/bust than he is. I think he's probably a 2nd liner. From reading this thread you'd think the only two options would be him being the next Giroux or the next Jessiman.

8.5 for Jankowski? Get real. He'll never hold a candle to the outstanding career of Chuck Kobasew, who was rated 8.5 a decade ago. :naughty:

It looks bad but a decade ago they didn't have the letter ranking and it seemed like there was a lot less unison between team rankers. Some teams were ranked overly generous, I seem to recall St. Louis having a whole bunch of 8.0 players, none of whom made it.

Anyways as for Jankowski, joke or not I find that HF tends to set the number grade a little low across the board. When they introduced the letter grade it gave you a scenario where you could say this is a players potential and this is the chance he achieves it. Yet the rankers seem reluctant to consider a prospects absolute peak potential, and rather give the player a grade at about 80% of that.

If a player busts you can say the chance was in the letter grade, but there's nothing you can say if a player exceeds his number rating. Which plenty have and there are always more to come. Someone mentioned Duncan Keith as an 8.0 player, don't know if he's the best example because his rise really took everyone by surprise but I think at one point he was rated as a 6.5C or something like that.

@Fan960Steinberg: #Flames prospect Mark Jankowski has been added to Team Canada's World Junior summer development camp roster.

As an aside, I am of the opinion that the current ranking is fine, 7.5C if anything.

I mean HURR DURR REACH LOL 2nd ROUND BEST PLAYER 10 YEARS GURRRRRRR FEASTER FAT/DUMB ROFL

Don't you know that teams should just take whoever is ranked highest by TSN? Why even have scouts in the first place? :sarcasm:

And anyway, doesn't Feaster have a fairly minimal role in the draft? I have the impression that he pretty much leaves that to Weisbrod and the scouting staff, which would explain why Feaster has seemed to do so well at it for the most part. ;)

The Panthers' first pick, Michael Matheson, who's 6 months older than him, finshed the season with 25 points in Boston College, while Jankowski finished with 18.

Yeah stats don't tell everything, but Matheson is a dman....

Matheson is a beast, and could become the steal of the draft. Such a great season, and elevated his game at the end. People are talking about that he might already be NHL ready.

Absolutely true! Feaster has never claimed to be a hockey guy of that nature; he's a straight-up manager, and his successes/failures are the result of the people he surrounds himself with more than his own personal opinions (which is substantially different from a lot of GMs).

Boston is also much more stacked compared to Providence....

Despite what people tell you, Jankowski won't actually be a top ten player of all time even if he hits his full potential and starts pissing rainbows and saving babies from burning orphanages. 7.5 is more than fair.

1. Johnny Gaudreau by himself had more points than Providence's top two offensive players combined.

2. Boston College had six players on their roster with more points than the leading scorer at Providence College.

The overall talent discrepancy between Boston College and Providence is astronomical. Had Matheson played in a different program he likely would have gotten far less hype, despite his abilities / skill set remaining the same.

Case Solved.

Does it matter? No. Personally I hope he does great so that he proves all these armchair GMs who have never watched him play wrong. The kid has all the pieces he needs to be an NHL player, time will tell if he can put it all together to make it there though.
