C/LW Jonathan Drouin (2013, 3rd, TBL) III

I would guess Drouin has an ego problem. Cooper does not play him, Yzerman reassigns him. I bet there is something behind the scenes that is happening.

He is a hothead, it has been pretty evident since he was in Halifax. But I would love him on Montreal anyway.

That's not why.

He was cut because he was still making plays from a standstill, specifically trying deke.

Sorry, I realize that the post doesn't read the way I intended it too. Those were the main reasons he was disappointed (because he has a lot of pride etc...) and thought that he should be able to play in the NHL that year. McKenzie was saying that Drouin believes he can/will be a special player.

Not that he got cut because of his ego etc...

This is a good move. Put him in a position to be the best player on his team and remember what that feels like. It's an underrated part of the game, but there's a certain skill in knowing what it means to be the go to guy.

Let him build up his confidence. Or humble him a bit. Either way, its a good thing for a talented young player.

Hopefully. His attitude seems to be a question mark.

I guess Kucherov has attitude problems as well since Cooper didn't play him either. I mean 20 and 21 year old Kucherov averaged 13 and 15 minutes per game respectively. 20 year old Drouin gets 14 minutes. Now Kucherov is the team's leading scorer at 22 playing 18 minutes. Or you have Vlad Namestnikov at 23 playing 14 minutes in a top 6 role this year. Cooper plays certain players in certain ways. He gives huge minutes to players that don't deserve it and 10-15 minutes to skill players. Either every skill player just happens to have an attitude problem or Drouin is fine and Cooper is the one with the issue.

And like I said, this is a roster move since Drouin was the only player that didn't require waivers plus he missed half the season and can use some conditioning time. Everything that Yzerman has said and done says that he likes Drouin and wants him playing.

The demotion was a good thing in the long run. There's a reason he was picked where he was; and there's a reason everyone around him has found incredible success.

He'll end up a really good player when everything's said and done. If not, he'll end up in Montreal

If only posters knew what the attitudes of most NHL players were like. Hint: they would surprise you

Pro athletes are cocky people by nature. That is part of why they are able to rise to the top.

If Stevie Y thinks the AHL is the best place for him. Then that's good enough for me. There must be some problems with him, since he has all the talent in the world to play in the NHL. It's not too late for him to get straightened out by this experience.

Yeah confidence and a short memory are a great trait for a young guy, its just worrisome if it becomes arrogance and complacency. Sucks for Drouin but being visibly angry 10 minutes after being sent down is expected (and not a bad personality trait) it is just how he uses that anger. Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest athlete of our time and he used every slight against him(cut from varsity as a sophemore, dropping to 3rd etc to prove he was better), Marty St Louis was similar in that regard.

I've met my share of hockey players through a former position I held. I always found hockey players to be one of the nicer down to earth people in sports. There are always some bad eggs in a basket. But all in all, I think our game is lucky the vast majority are good young men.

Being a little cocky must not mean that they are bad people in general.
DeAngelo is one example IMO. From what I heard he is a chill and nice guy away from hockey. Once he hits the ice he is a hothead and always playing on that fine line between selfcontrol and losing it. As long as he has himself under control on the ice that "hothead" is a great thing for the team. If he loses himself, he gets into trouble.

His former coach Keefe even said, that this 99% of the time one of DeAngelos best talents. He can push himself further than normal people. But sometimes he can't control it anymore (as seen at least once every season sind his pre-draft year)

Wow brutal, it seems like his development has really been mishandled, especially considering many people thought he would be better than MacKinnon. At this rate he`ll either demand a trade or refuse to resign this summer...

I totally called it! Drouin must think he's NHL ready to request a trade. Confidence is a double edged sort but I hope it works out for him (and the Habs).

Yeah. I've followed him since midget he played in my hometown.

He'd get chirped by opposing players, then he'd go score, skate by their bench after he's done so and just stare the kid down.

That sounds like exactly what I'd want someone to do. He has some fire in him.

He's really not a hothead with a huge ego like he's being made out to be. I know him, went to school and had classes with plenty of his teammates, know his now ex-girlfriend, I've never had any experience to suggest it and it's only been online that I've seen it. He might have been cocky or just very confident in his ability due to him being basically better than everyone in his age group but that's not unusual.

And when you stand out as particularly bad whilst being in that mix it says what?

Not really seeing what's wrong with this. I'd love to have that guy on my team.

should stop deeking himself out...

has he peaked in jr ?

Nah give him a couple years and he will be a 60-70+ point guy. Could have easily put up 60 this year if he stayed in a top 6 role with 15-18 minutes a game. His health has been an issue too but I think Tampa has been holding him out with his undisclosed injuries longer than he feels needed and that may be another thing irking him.

I wonder why this do not happen more often, why players so often show so much lojal to this random team that happens to pick that they never chose themself to go to.

Drouin started of good, and I think it is bad managerment simple. I have seen it before, when a young player comes in, many times gets top minut, preform, and then get lesser and lesser minuts without no good reason, and then he go downhill after that. I think it messes with their confidence Drouin is however young and can still buonch back easily.
