C Kieron Walton #187 2024 NHL Draft

This is probably the second biggest adjustment I have made as a Jets fan on HFBoards. I use to carry more optimism on prospects but reality of the historical 2.0 results made me realize I needed a heavy recalibration especially on my ceiling projections. Outside the 1st round we have yet to select a high impact “Skater” that has played on our 1st line or our top pairing. I love Lowry but he is what he is.

Now at some point this might change but until it does I am taking more of an “I will believe it when it happens once” approach. Still enjoy following the prospects but I am not getting ahead of myself on them. I like the D +1 season Walton is having but I am not expecting him to break our streak.

Still fun to have prospects to follow.
Re: Lowry....

Given his line matchups... his job is to help shutdown top lines...

If he was given two skilled/scoring wingers... and played a different role... who knows...

When he played at the World Championships in a balanced role... he stood out... big...

Just a thought...

I ran into Krzysztof Oliwa (former Devils tough guy) once and he was a monster. This was after he retired so he was probably bigger than his playing days.

But most of the skill guys are ridiculously lean. I've seen Morrissey around and when he's in street clothes he looks skinny.
Obvy a big part of their mass is in their legs and butt, big muscle groups that tend to weigh a lot.

I like to try and convince myself that's why I with 190 🤣

what’s his projection? Possibly our future 2C or even Scheif replacement?
I think you are pretty bang on. Still not sure if he will end up being a wing or a center.

He is probably more of a 4 year until impact type prospect. Another junior year, a full AHL year, debuting the year after that, and making an impact as an NHLer hopefully the year after that.

The dude had a scorching start that he cooled off from. Overall a 1.4 pts/game season from a 18 year old in his D+1 , especially as a 6'6 C/LW is really, really encouraging. He has a lot going for him.

He was drafted a year ago and could arguably go top 15 in a redraft instead of 6th round...

I am a fan of the CHL angle the Jets have drafted from in recent years, and been able to sign. If the Jets can turn Yager, Barlow, Julien, He and Walton into effective NHL players, with the right development path, it's going to be a different looking Jets team.

I hope he comes to the Moose to get some experience in the higher level of play, finish off a promising season and get integrated with the team better.

Whilee coyote spotted this guy first, credit to him.

Wheeler was 6'5" 222lbs.

Rempe's the current heaviest NHLer at 255.

Edstrom is the 2nd heaviest forward at 241.

Then Ovi at 238 (tied with Austin Watson).

Ian Cole wins the Brick Shithouse Award at 6'1", 237.
And to think Buff was 6'5 260ish and could skate. He is almost as tall as Sawyer while sitting down.

I’ve seen Ehlers and Little around town and couldn’t believe how small they looked…it was like when Mr Burns with no shirt on. They were very tiny.

I think we are spoiled by movies…all the action stars on roids doing fantastical things.

Having a ripped to shreds professional hockey player only happens when Ovi touches you with an Oh Henry bar.

Really like that we managed to get him before he went NCAA route. Absolute monster of a center at 6'6, 215. Actually has some solid hands and a big shot and a bit of creativity to his game. Likes to fire them from the right side hashmarks on the PP. Solid skater as well not even for just a big man.

He definitely already has the size to play in the NHL, turning 19 this month, so I think he might get a decent look to make the Jets out of camp next year. But good chance he plays one more season in the O.

If this kid turns out he might be exactly what we need at C. Based on interviews I've seen he seems like a good kid, well spoken, hard worker, looks like a future leader. Really hope he turns out.

Needs to learn to play a "pro style" game... meaning that if the Jets brass can work with his coach to get him to start doing that, he may take a step back in points production next year in junior.

That said, huge upside if he's developed properly

I met Scheifele at a golf tournament, he's a big boy. Met Ehlers once as well at a golf course, he is not.
