Flyers drafting Luchanko over Buium will haunt them for more than a decade. Good thing we are used to being haunted over bad draft decisions.

Even drafting him over Helenius.
Shit most people had Hage above. Every poster on this forum would have taken Hage, Helenius or Buium over Luchanko. But our GM is very, very intelligent. Some would even say the smartest person in the room
Briere didn’t want to deal with the most unethical agent in the NHL. It wasn’t a scouting decision.Button just ranked Buium as the 4th best prospect. Luchanko? 44. I know it's Button, but still. What a horrid pick when Buium fell into their lap. Could you imagine Buium and Michkov on the Powerplay together for a decade? Briere is a f***ing moron.
From a Habs pov. I was hoping for Luchanko to be available at our pick. Button's ranking mentioned above is to be taken with a grain of salt. Buium does look like he elevated his game, but he's not 2 tiers above. Maybe one tier above, but Luchanko can certainly catch up to him.Even drafting him over Helenius.

The Flyers passing on Buium just stands out a lot more because they were the last team before the tier drop down and they didn’t want him. Lots of other teams passed on him too despite often being mocked in the 3-7 range. Wonder what that was about
Sometimes it's just a perfect storm a la Cam Fowler dropping out of the top 10. Also it seemed like a cluster of D in that 5-12 range last year that could have gone in any order depending on who was picking where. Reminded me a bit of 2012.
3. Anaheim - location would have been nice, but they have a lot of young LHD
4. Columbus - Decent amount of young D, had needs elsewhere
5. Montreal - Probably no regrets taking Demidov
6. Utah - I thought for sure they were taking a D, but perhaps they knew they had the Sergachev trade close to completion.
7. Ottawa - Sanderson and (for now) Chabot on the left side, so they wanted a RHD like Yakemchuk
8. Seattle - Also thought for sure they were taking a D, but maybe Ron Francis brought the Carolina mentality of "don't draft D in the first round" with him.
9. Calgary - Maybe some hesitation with US born guys / Parekh is also good.
10. New Jersey - A more defensive minded D like Silayev probably made more sense given our D composition.
11. San Jose - Thought for sure they were taking Buium but they liked Dickinson more which is/was defensible
I can’t help thinking that Buium’s agent being Cutter Gauthier’s agent as well played a part. It’s possible that that is a burnt business bridge but it’s hard to say without knowing the backstoryThat's pretty much it. There was also a bit of residual bit of skepticism about Buium's size and about how well he would translate to the pros with more modest tools.
You're correct about #8 - Seattle does not draft D early. I think Francis did learn that lesson in Carolina, after they got burned taking Fleury and Bean early (and to some degree Hanifin relative to who else was available). I also think you're right about Calgary after having so many Americans walk on them.
The Flyers passing on Buium really stands out as the shocker.
Same agent as Ryan Johansson tooI can’t help thinking that Buium’s agent being Cutter Gauthier’s agent as well played a part. It’s possible that that is a burnt business bridge but it’s hard to say without knowing the backstory
