Crushing news.. Was really hoping to see this kid in a Mooseheads jersey.

Better make up for it at the Import draft, Halifax.

Even as a WHL fan I don't buy that CHL is the way to go for all the best prospects, but I would've loved to see this kid with MacKinnon and Drouin. Considering Jack is 2015 eligible, he probably knew that he only had one season to perhaps play with MacKinnon and Drouin (if they do not make the NHL off the bat which seems likely for Nathan).

hows jack doin this year? any chance to make the world junior team? quick hockeydb search shows hes got 10 points in 5 ushl games.

What are the chances this kid upholds his commitment to BU? Really likely?

I know this is an old post, but since hes from Massachusetts, it was a definite, every hockey player dreams about playing either BC or BU in Massachusetts.

I was bummed out to find out he signed in the CHL.

Drafted, but failed to report to Halifax last year. This year, Halifax had a compensation pick because of it I believe. Last I heard, he was property of some other Q team who took a late round flyer on him, on the off chance he comes up to Canada. Can't remember who... Quebec, or St. John maybe..?

Seadogs yep

Definitely didn't sign though

Oh ok, thanks for the clarification. I'm not really in sync with the CHL since I live south of the border, so I'm better exposed with the NCAA. So he will likely play for BU?

Yes, he will. That's the latest. Just finished the Four Nations Tournament in Finland with 4-3-7 in three games; named US Player of the Game twice.

Is he going to be invited to WJC tryouts?

Could see Eichel and Hanifin both getting invites to the tryout camp just to allow them to get a taste of that level. 2 of the most talented American prospects in a long time, and dominating competition right now.

Watching him play against Michigan and he is just on another level against players 3-5 years older than him. I am surprised how tall and tough he is especially on the boards. But the best part of his game is his hockey sense and pure shot, he knows where to be for a one timer. He is one of those players who somehow does everything right offensively.

He isn't bad defensively, but looks like Ovechkin when playing defense; sort of stands up and floats.

He reminds me of a Logan Couture/Bobby Ryan/Eric Staal hybrid.

So, hes a bad skater? Slow? Stiff?

Not really, I don't think he's bad at it, but sort of looks a little choppy. Though his first few strides are strong and long. An area he can improve on, but isn't going to making him drop in the rankings because of it.

Yeah, he looks really good tonight. On his skating it looks fine to me. He might not have great acceleration or a very good first stride but when he gets going he looks pretty good at full speed. He doesn't seem like he has to go full blast though as he is always in the right place. I love his puck protection skills.

I agree with the Eric Staal comparison. He might not be great defensively yet, but he also looks alot like Ryan Kesler out there to me.

Based on what I am seeing in this game I believe he should make the US WJC team and be given a decent role.

Ok, so what type of info you guys on here got on him.

What type of player do you see him as? ie. Sniper, Playmaker, Powerforward

Also, I thought it would be fun to do a "Button scouting report" on him.
ie: Shot Out of 5 "Ice Q" out of 5. Physicality out of 5. Hands out of 5. Skating out of 5. Playmaking out of 5. Competitiveness out of 5.

He reminds me of a sniper, but once he develops more he has the IQ to be an all around offensive force.

Shot: 5
IQ: 5
Physicality: 4 (Doesn't look for hits, but is very strong with the puck)
Hands: 4.5 (Not Drouin good, more along MacKinnon)
Skating: 3
Playmaking: 4
Competitiveness: 2-3 (Sort of floats when the puck isn't in his area)
Defensive Game: 2.5

I'm not sure why anyone would consider his skating a weakness. I've always considered him to be a strong skater and have seen others say the same.

You need to actually watch him play if you're criticizing Eichel's skating.

If you watched him against a fast-skating Michigan team in the game televised last week, you know there's no issue with his skating. And it's likely to get even better as he trains with Mike Boyle in the off-season and BU's strength/condition coach is a Boyle disciple.
