How does he compare to JVR? I'm talking about his overall play in Juniors. We saw that Kane went the OHL route and JVR the college one but one kinda progress more than the other.

I really doubt that one going to the CHL and one going to NCAA made any difference at all in their development.

We also saw Jonathan Toews go the college route and progress more there than the guy taken ahead of him, who went the OHL route.

2015 draft is going to be downright awesome. so many great talents and Eichel is one of the most talented US kid I have ever seen.

If Eichel was in the 2013 draft where would he rank? Before or after Mac?

I know it's still a year from him being drafted.

Can any of our good American friends (or other) comment about his play re his size - i've watched him a bit - as much as i can - and have seen stuff re he might be something of a 'power forward' - but maybe i'm blind - i haven't see 'power forward' from him .

i agree. and i'll say my bias is i'm a big CHL fan...and don't really like watching ncaa hockey. but can we please stop (like you've said) acting like someone's development is really impacted by any of that. b/c imo it's not.

Depends what you define as power forward. He's big and hard to knock off his skates, so he's a power forward in the same way that Sidney Crosby is a power forward. It's damn near impossible to push him over. He's not a power forward in the sense of battling it out in front of the net and just being a big ogre of a player like say John Leclair. He's a big skilled center who can possess the puck with the best of them, makes smart plays and distributes well, drives puck possession.

How's he done since after the junors?

Nine points in 8 games, including a couple against college teams, and scored the GWG against Russia yesterday in the Five Nations Tournament. Eichel has points in 25 of 31.

some think Hanifin can go before Eichel and Barzal...tells you how good he is thought of - same high end as Ekblad.

Cousin played on Hanifin's team and said the kid was simply unreal. My uncle watched a good amount of their games on St. Sebs and said the kid will probably go top 3 if he doesn't slide. Pretty crazy.

the more

i watch him, the more impressed i am. the kid already does all the little things right. plays a strong heady game, and i believe has tremendous potential. the sky is the limit for this kid and whoever drafts him will be really lucky.

That's how I've seen him...and I wouldn't call Crosby a 'power forward' (i.e. doesn't fit my own definition of the phrase)..so i appreciate your comments.

The USHL's Week 23 press release recognizes Eichel as their forward of the week:
Jack Eichel, F, Team USA: The North Chelmsford, Massachusetts native had a stellar week for Team USA’s Under-18 squad, recording six points (3g, 3a) and a plus-four on-ice rating over two games. Saturday night, the 17-year-old potted a goal and handed out a pair of assists in the 4-1 win over the Indiana Ice. He also tied a game high with a plus-three rating. The next night, he was a staple on the scoresheet again, tallying a pair of goals and dishing out an assist in a 5-4 loss to the Ice. His second goal was the 30th of his USHL career. Committed to Boston University, Eichel is on a four-game point streak in USHL play, totaling 10 points (4g, 6a) and a plus-eight rating over that span. He leads Team USA in scoring with 33 points (17g, 16a) in just 16 USHL games this season. He has points in 13 of those 16 contests, including multi-point efforts in 12 games.
Also, FSD had a 1-on-1 interview with him a few weeks back.

Might be best NHL prospect from the US that I have seen. It's great for the US to finally have a superstar center. We haven't had a guy like Eichel since Pat Lafontaine.
