When there's an icing you can't change players

I'm not just talking about the end of the game, I'm talking about the whole third period. He lost a lot more draws than he won especially when he was penalty killing. And he was on the ice with 3.9 seconds left but they went with Reinhart instead.

After they iced the puck twice Reinhart stayed on, Fucale froze the puck but he stayed on.

Fucale froze the puck with 4 seconds left...you think the coach is going to change the lines? lol pls

Bottom line is Gauthier was playing pretty much every other shift in the third period, he lined up with McDavid and Lazar on his wings in the d-zone a few times too. Pretty sure coach trusted him to take important face-offs

oh and he was on the ice for the last face-off, just it was on Reinhart's strong side so he didn't take it

Props to Gautheir who everyone was pissed off of, for blowing away puck possessions, but he was very good tonight. Limited to his body work due to refs calling everything.

Well Done Gautheir, be proud of your gold.

I didn't even say anything negative and you get all defensive. Cute. I just corrected you that in fact he was on the ice and it wasn't because of icing.

Shifting gears, Gauthier was alright. Bobbled the puck in the O-zone and got walked a couple times but he did his job. Won draws and killed penalties.

I agree with WilliamNylander, 4C faceoff/PK specialist aka Jay McClement 2.0. Jay had similar junior stats.

I agree with this. Combination of size, smart play and faceoffs domination make him an NHL player. But I don't see him having any kind of offensive role in the pros.

He'll be a great 4th line center, who is great at faceoffs and the PK and be an NHL regular i think. He has absolutely 0 offensive upside though. You dont always need that to carve out a respectable NHL career though.

He has terrible hands and no offensive instinct whatsoever. His skating is also horrid. Defensively, he knows where to be, and he is great in the circle. I don't know if that will be enough for him to stick in the NHL.

Can't help but laugh at all the "terrible skater" comments. When you're 6'5, you have a longer, slower stride, but if you're paying attention, you'll notice he's moving at least as fast as everyone else. Didn't see the kid lose a puck race all tourney.

His line with Crouse and Ritchie was a dominant zone-time line, and ended up being probably my favourite line to watch by the end of the tournament, they were so entertaining on the cycle. Congrats on the gold Gauthier

Team Canada leaned heavy on Gauthier in the third period of the gold medal game. He was out there seemingly for every other shift. Lined up with plenty of different players on Team Canada even if he would get off the ice after the face off on some occasions.

If the last faceoff happened to be on the left side of Fucale then Gauthier would've taken it. But it wasn't. Gauthier was on the ice in case Reinhart got tossed out of the draw but it's smart to have guys take face offs on their strong side. To those saying that he doesn't use his size, he may not be rocking people left and right but the Russians sure were having a tough time getting around dat ass of his to get the puck. He protects it very well down low which is why the Ritchie-Gauthier-Crouse line dominated. Three giants

Reinhart is right-handed and the faceoff was on the right side. It was common sense to go to him because he was on his strong side.

He played a great tourney. You can't ask for more from him. He played his role and did it damn well. That big line's cycling really impressed me starting a few games ago.

Hands of stone. But he worked hard and was defensively responsible. Made some key contributions. Could be a solid fourth liner. Needs to develop some offence though if he wants to anchor a third line in the NHL. Was set up well quite a few times by Ritchie but just had no finish.

I think the comparisons are a little low end here... I think he definitely can be a Chris Kelly type, without the great speed but with a lot more size. Can consistently get around 30 points, and will flirt with 40 if he can develop his offensive skills and vision just a touch

It's not his top speed that's the problem, it's that he has the turning radius of an Airbus A380 and needs 9000 feet of ice to take off.
