I know nothing about this kid - nor Shane Wright. But I've been hearing a lot about them lately, and trying to get a sense of what they project to be

What category of prospects are either/or of them? Are either of them looking like a McDavid/Crosby level? Both? Better? Not quite as high?

Curious what people think.

It's early for both of them.

I have Bedard as a potential McDavid/Crosby tier prospect. He's the "next one" if he continues to develop and get stronger. His current skill set would be excellent for a 17-year-old prospect but is extraordinary for his age. Certain prospects have that feel for the game and Bedard is one of them.

Wright is a tier below (i.e. Matthews/Stamkos) as a prospect. Of course, that's nothing to scoff at because a franchise-level prospect is still going to be a stud. In fact, Wright is the perfect prospect due to his exceptional two-way game. It's very easy to project him as an NHL superstar.

There's going to 31 other teams releasing statements in a couple years after Bedard will rip them up with goals. His shot is a horrifying act of violence lol.

It's insane, Matthews best try to win the next 2-3 rockets because Bedard will be gunning for that trophy for the next decade.

While watching this tournament, I realized that Wright has so many of the same qualities as Bryan Trottier and Bedard is like a young Mike Bossy.

I asked in the old thread the chances he’d tie or beat McDavids points at 15, got a few responses of people saying no he won’t what do you think now? 8 points in last 2 games having a 2 point night in the finals isn’t a stretch at all the way he’s been playing

Fair question. Score 3 pts and he beats McDavid's record for a double-underager. If he gets 4 pts he beats and sets a new Team Canada record for most pts. at the IIHF U18 tourney. If you know who currently holds that Team Canada U18 record, you get extra brownie pts.

Isn’t it Tyson Jost? Honestly Bedard has surpassed my expectations and then some this tournament. I was in the camp that wasn’t expecting him to touch McDavid level points, I was going to be satisfied with merely a point per game effort throughout. He is a 15 year old after all and it is a short tournament, I wasn’t going to draw too many huge conclusions if he didn’t produce like this.

correct. Tyson Jost.

I had a little more grandiose expectations for Bedard than you, and he's exceeded my expectations. and not just by a little. We have a new phenom on our hands.

Should be an epic battle for Gold.

I thought Barzal held the record.

not in one tournament. Barzal played in 2 U18s. he has more pts. combined. but Team Canada scoring record for 1 IIHF U18 tournament is Jost. 15. McDavid 14.

Oh right!! Had to go look it up because I swear I heard Barzals name mentioned somewhere. That must of been it. At this rate there is a very outside chance he goes to the U20s next year. He'll get an invite to camp no doubt if he keeps tearing it up in the Dub.

I think Hockey Canada already has him written in a 2nd/3rd. line winger role. That's why they are playing him on the wing this tourney.

Yeah easier for him to get his shot off of he isnt trying to play down low as much. Kids got a pretty insane release for a 15 year old. Michkov too. Yager has been awesome with MJ too. Cant wait to go watch some Dub next year.

It will be a couple of fun years if you are within driving distance of a DUB game.

I am not within driving distance, but am hoping by next fall we're back to some degree of normality and I get a business trip or two Western Canada and get in a game or two or three.

I usually do some summertime R&R in Kamloops and have made the drive to Edmonton for Hlinka. not sure if I can get there this summer...but fingers crossed.

I'm in MJ so I'll get as close a seat as any outside of Regina to the Bedard show. It's rather unfortunate that we have a young player as good as Yager has been and Regina gets Bedard. Games against the Pats are usually the only sell outs here. Already made for the most exciting hockey we get in our building but now it's gonna be a madhouse.
