The biggest problem with Barkov was that he was super exhausted after playing huge minutes every game. He is still just 17 and playing high intensity pro games is most likely pretty different than playing some junior hockey. I've watched (finnish) hockey over a decade and have never seen as intelligent a player as Barkov is and he is just a kid.

People are talking about his skating. He was still growing last year and might even still be(?) so it is just natural that his skating isn't so good. Little more explosiveness next summer and he's ready to play in NHL. Hope he gets picked by traditional team, hate to see him playing in some plastic organisation.

Rather move to a club that allows him to develop comfortably and not rushed into playing
than being put into so much pressure from the get go that it goes pear shaped

Today's game:

Barkov and Ville Nieminen 2vs1, Barkov with a puck, couple forehand-to-backhand and amazing snap shot past Kilpeläinen (Jokerit goalie) just beside the post.

Barkov has now 3 goals in last two games. He has now 17 goals and 17 assists in 37 games. Just can't say is he more like a playmaker or sniper, he's both. :yo:

Disappointing that he isn't ppg anymore, he might drop to the later picks of first round.

Don't know if serious... Barkov has best PPG of his team, most goals of his team. Barkov is in top 10 in points and goals in FEL despite of missed games at WJC. Barkov isn't 18 until next september. He is one of the best players in the league. Probably setting new record for points and goals for draft eligible players ever in FEL in role where he takes care of defensive duties and play in all situations. Not only offense like Teräväinen, Mikael Granlund, Joel Armia, Olli Jokinen.

But playing against men can't be as hard as playing against kids his own age! :sarcasm:

Yes only a lowly pathetic 0.91 PPG as a 17 year old, how dare he! This kind of late-first round scum disgusts me!

Meh i don't even know if i would use a late 1st on him, seems a bit risky, maybe a 2nd if he brings his stats up :sarcasm:

Tappara has 17 games left. If Barkov plays all of them with the same PPG as this season so far (0.919), he'll end up with ca. 50 points in 54 games. Will he get there or will he end up with less points?

Yes there is 17 regular season games left. These 17+17 are allready very impressive points for 17 years old. He has been better and better in every game after WJC so I believe that he will stay over 0.85pgg and step up in new level in playoffs..

45points is my guess which would be new record for draft eligible players in FEL. He would be youngest ever to score 40points or more. Don't know what is the record for U20 player in FEL. Barkov is 17 for whole season...

My bet is that Tappara wins FEL championship Barkov as their #1 C. We could see Barkov at WC instead of U18WC.

I'm pretty sure no player has ever finished a season with 1+ PPG in the SM-liiga before becoming NHL draft eligible, Barkov's numbers are exceptional. Having watched plenty of his games, I feel confident that he'll go top 6 in this draft, and there's absolutely no way he goes in the late 1st (i.e. about 20th-30th). He has top 6, 2-way centre written all over him, he's a very safe pick with plenty of upside, he simply will not drop.

There are dozens of player who have scored more than 1 PPG in SM-liiga season, 3 in last season... :shakehead
There are players even with 2+ PPG.

I dont believe he has any intention of playing in the NHL. It would be a huge risk to draft this kid high. Dano is another story. In any event no way does he go before drouin
