C Aleksander Barkov - Tampere Tappara, FEL (2013 Draft) - Part II

But will he need to waer a cage? That would look silly for a "leader" on the ice.
 
Still was more impressed by the photo from Ville Nieminen´s twitter back in the summer. Nieminen looked really small besides Sasha. Just a huge kid and probably will be around 6.4, 230-240lbs in few years.

Wise move to leave out Barkov from Canada-game.

BTW, how has he played lately? No points in 6-7 games.

This... When he is fully developed he is going to be very hard to stop.

We all talk about his physical developement but one thing that we don't talk about is his mental maturity. Let me say he is as matured mentally as physically. He has exceptional hockeyIQ and he makes very few mistakes. His decision making is pure excellence. Positioning is close to perfection. Could be one of the smartest players for this draft. Granlund was voted as smartest kid for his draft and Barkov can match it.

He has been great. Sometimes the pucks don't bounce in or linemates doesen't bury in from wide open nets. It is in this case. I wouldn't worry. Barkov has been consistent during this year and this is biggest pointless stretch for him. Before that he had only few pointless games. The problem for his line is that he plays with bunch of guys who can't match his vision and smartness. Nieminen and Hansen have been really good but they play different game compared to Barkov. When Barkov hits into NHL he get's players who will bury from his set ups and can match his vision. Hansen and Nieminen has tunnel vision after all. Hansen is smart player but in the offensive zone his vision is limited. Not to mention their defenders.

Barkov was just 16 on that pic. At this moment he has still 9 months before turning 18. And yes... those shoulders are WIDE!

Btw, it is Barkov's car. ^^

I wont be able to watch any games in sweden so please I need info about a stream or streams for the finnish games
 
No points in today's game. Still, didn't make bad mistakes, dished out nice passes and won most of his face-offs. He needs one new linemate, though, because Nykopp kept on hogging the puck although both Barkov and Lehkonen are better players than him and should keep the puck most of the time. Overall it wasn't that great of a performance from the team as a whole, either. Hoping to see some changes for the next game.

Especially now that Aaltonen is out, it would be madness to keep Teräväinen in the third line. Moving Teräväinen alongside Barkov and Lehkonen would benefit all of them.

I'm going to start asking what Teräväinen did to piss off Valtonen if they still won't move him to the 2nd line.:laugh:
 
Two games played and Barkov's stats o+o. What do you think - could Barkov drop out of top10 if his WJC performance goes on like this?

Valeri Nichushkin should be a riser, at least. Drouin, too.

This tournament doesnt make or break a player. He has already proven a lot in the FEL IMO. I dont think he will fall out of the top 3. If he does, someone will be mighty lucky to nab him at 4.
 
No. Even if he goes pointless the rest of the tournament he's going top 10 and most likely top 5.

It remains a tournament for 18 year olds and especially 19 year olds.

The mere fact Barkov is playing in it at 17 says enough.

Absolutely not, stats are not all that important when evaluating a prospect.

Barkov is a 6'-3" center who has a heavy shot, great 2 way game, above average skating, a good physical presence, and is an extremly smart player. From what I have seen he is a top 5 pick without much hesitation. I have him as a top 3 pick right now behind only Jones and MacKinnon.

The only player I think can knock Barkov out of the top 3 is Lindholm who is think will be an absolute star in the NHL, I see alot of Claude Giroux in his game.

If a scout is basing their opinion of a player on their performance at the WJHC then he should be fired. 7 games are a meaningless sample of a player's ability. A strong performance should earn a second look and a poor one can earn a double take but to look at one tournament and let it influence more than the rest of the season is wrong.

His top speed is just fine for his size the problem is in his first steps. Bigger guys tend to look slower because their stride his bigger. When Barkov uses his speed he is suprisingly fast.

I would like him to keep the puck more and make more creative plays. Simple game works against men and in pro game but in junior game it is all creativity, flash, fast unpredictable moves. Like i said before the tournament Barkov could be lost in junior games because his game is already molded into pro game.

Barkov needs to be more creative, need to hog the puck more, challenge the opposite players with his strength and skill if he want to be big factor in this tournament. I'm sure that Barkov would be more comfortable in the NHL than in the WJC.

Barkov was lost in Latvia game and was ok in Czech game. In the 3rd period of Czech game i tought that Barkov was the best finnish foward. I hope his game is just warming up for junior games.

I know right, he'll be lucky if he even gets drafted at all, even my 12-year old cousin skates better than Barkov.
 
If history in the NHL draft tells us anything its that skating is one of the easiest skills to improve. A player with Barkov's size, hockey sense and hands should be taken in the top 5 no doubt. His skating will improve like many young players.

I dont think his game is that flawed if he was in the FEL at 16. Maybe his skating needs work, due to his NHL size frame, but it can be worked on. Pacioretty didnt have that good of skating and look where it is now.
