This guy is going to be a monster when he fills out. If he can play C the Wild will have some very good options up front moving forward

LW: Fiala, Boldy, Greenway
C: Eriksson Ek, Khovanov, Beckman
RW: Kaprizov, Kunin

If / when the WHL starts up, it would be awkward for him, and others in his position to go back. As is, going back to Canada involves flying into one of four cities, then staying in a hotel and getting tested at your own expense( upward of $2000), then quarantining for another 11 -14 days, if you test negative.

Does he have to go back? Or can he finish the season with Iowa? Seems like he has nothing left to prove in the WHL

I don't really know. Just realized that Beckman plays with Spokane, so the border wouldn't be an issue for him, but who would they play with? Portland, Everett, and? As things stand now, there is no way that they will be able to cross the border till March at the earliest.

There was talk of Beckman playing Center this year in the WHL. I'm sure he could play there and improve his game in a normal year.

He isn't facing the pro competition, what he should be getting, how is he supposed to improve by facing junior competion?

Seems like a fairly arrogant post. Particularly given the reduced number of opportunities to play due to the pandemic.

Returning to the WHL last year didn't slow the development of Ty Smith any.

Playing at the appropriate level is beneficial - maybe more so - rather than playing at a level for which you may not be physically or developmentally ready.

WHL is just fine for another couple of months. To say that it is a waste of time is ridiculous. He got a few games in Iowa due to unusual circumstances(Covid), got a taste of what a higher level of play it is, and now needs to work hard on his weaknesses. I thought he looked decent in the AHL. Like most young players, he needs to get stronger, and fill out that frame of his. Skating is above average, but he needs to work on his acceleration and motor, IMO. You can never be too good of a skater. His shot and release is already pretty well up to NHL standard.

Hopefully he will be ready for some NHL time in 2022-23, maybe even a few games next year.

I agree, any hockey is better than no hockey, and WHL hockey is better than a lot of possible alternatives. Like, no hockey for all of the OHL players.

He might've had super weird, couldn't care less, bad start to the season but, now..
in his last 10 games, 13 goals, 21 points and avg about 5 shots on goal per game

He averaged 7 shots per game during that "couldn't care less" period. Sometimes the puck just doesn't go in.

Think the kid has top 6 written all over him. Doubt he will get used at Center. I assume something like this for top 9 by 23-24, with maybe a few like Beckman making top 6 prior:
LW: Boldy, Beckman, Greenway
C: Rossi, Khovanov, Ek
RW: Kaprizov, Fiala, Foligno

Big fan of Khovanov but I don't think he's 2 years from 2C.

I think Beckman can do it though. Love his shot volume.
