I feel like Calgary is one of the few teams where Byram (EDIT - or Power) has a real opportunity to blossom. Andersson might be heading out the door, and the kids on D aren't ready for prime time just yet. A guy like Bahl is good depth to move forward with, and Weegar will be sticking around as a top pairing guy, but otherwise, there's ice time available for whomever deserves it and earns it. Byram hasn't been totally amazing in Buffalo, so if Calgary pro scouts like him, they could get him at what they would consider to be a discount.

So... what does it cost Calgary?

Let's assume that Miromanov is going back to Buffalo, for cap and roster purposes.
He can either temporarily replace Byram / Power in the short term in Buffalo, or his 1 year low cap contract can easily be flipped if they want to bring in a top 4 guy. He also doesn't seem to be in Calgary's plans long-term... Flames fans tell me that nowadays they think he sucks.

So, Byram / Power going to Calgary, Miromanov going to Buffalo, and then obviously Calgary has to give something with real value. Perhaps Miromanov + Hunter Brzustewicz + a pick? Honzek instead of Brzustewicz? I'm not sure what the right fit is here in terms of what Calgary is willing to part with and what interests Buffalo. Parekh is definitely too much to ask for and Calgary wouldn't part with him to get Byram. Y'all can tell me what it would cost.

Samuelsson - Dahlin
Byram/Power - ( Miromanov / top 4 RD trade )
( Johnson / Bryson )
- Clifton
7D = ( Bernard-Docker / Bryson )

Byram/Power - Weegar
Bahl - Andersson (???)
Bean - Pachal
7D = ( UFA / Kuznetsov / Solovyov )

Does not move the needle on sabres interest in spare dispisabke parts.

The ask would be andersen

Sabres need to trade one of their really good left shot D. But the return needs to support their top six forwards.
Byram to Calgary for a young forward makes good sense.

Miromanov is not a quality NHL player. Wont be surprised if he’s back in the KHL in another year. He’s not remotely a Byram replacement and he has no value. He’s a guy you pick up on waivers to fill your #7/8 spot. Flames fans tell you he sucks because he sucks.

Brz and Honzek are fine prospects. They aren’t remotely worth Byram and more prospects is the last thing the Sabres need.

I’d move Andersson plus. Buffalo has enough prospects. Not sure what the plus would be. Coleman maybe?

I don’t think Andersson has much value to Buffalo with his contract expiring next summer. Odds he’d wanna sign here have got to be bordering on non-existent. He’s also not really the type of defenseman we’re hurting for, despite being a righty.

Miromanov does not suck and was a very effective player when he played.

Some would argue that he was healthy scratched due to poor play.

I would argue it was more due to 1) the great play of Hanley as the LD partner of Weegar and 2) Miromanov doesn't score at the level the Flames had hoped for.

Other than that he played low event defensive hockey.

As far as the OP premise goes, I would offer one of Zary, Sharangovich or Farabee for Bowen.

Other adds could be made by either team to get the deal done, but most likely wouldn't involve Andersson as it would be too much for Byram.

If Andersson appeals to Buffalo, add a sweetener in the form of a prospect.

Buffalo doesn’t give a shit about your picks and prospects. We have 7399174 already. If you want a player off our roster, you need to offer a player that’s a better fit for our roster. Now. Not aspirationally in 5 years.
If the Sabres trade Byram or Power isn’t the return highly likely to be a younger (22-26) really good top six forward?

Either that or a RHD that can PK and actually play 20 minutes and play well in his own zone.

I think the vast majority of Sabres fans see a 20 min defensively good RHD as the #1 need

People are going to be all over the place on their valuations of Andersson after last year.
And his contract status is an issue.

But the concept of Andersson is what the Sabres need most from the list of what the Flames have. Any deal would be about the other pieces, or a contract to balance risks.

Byram is exactly what the Flames need at this point in time for their build.
People forget the he's only 23 and don't realize he played first-pairing minutes with very little PP time.

I'd encourage them to look at his 5-on-5 numbers — regular and fancy — compared to 'elite' guys his age like Seider and Sanderson.

Anyone who manages to steal him from Buffalo should be very happy.

Nah, Miro sucks. 7th defenseman on almost any NHL roster

I think that most fans — even Sabres fans — don't realize how Byram was used this year and the hole his departure will create. They're too hung up on the "3 LH PMD" thing.

Byram played nearly 23 minutes a night and his primary role was 5-on-5 against the other team's best players.

Some would argue that shouldn't be his role, but that doesn't change the fact that he was far better at it than any Sabre defenceman not wearing #26.

Buffalo needs a player who can do that even if they keep Byram, but if they trade him they've got nobody.

Someone to partner with Dahlin at 5 on 5 and be on PK #1?

What about Power?

Dahlin plays RD1
What about Power?

What about him?

Ideally Buffalo wants someone who can fit with Power

Samuelsson--DAHLIN
POWER--XXX
Byram-Clifton
Ryan Johnson- JBD
The thought is trading one of Byram, power, samurlson out and get a RD back. It might not be done in one trade.they could trade their D for a F, then trade I mg a different F for the RD

The Byram/Dahlin combo was the most effective #1 pairing in the NHL this year: 70% ES goals.

Dahlin doesn’t really need a partner per se, he elevates whoever he plays with and his pairing will succeed with any reasonably good player.

Change Dahlin to Power in your question and you’re bang on.
What about Power?

Power regressed last year and was a liability defensively.

personally I think it was a blip caused by the big contract and new coaching staff, but he was the king of standing next to the guy who scored.

Dont listen this guy. Constantly not wanting to rebuild and part of the problem. GMKA and Pegula obviously meet people like this for drinks and thats how they run the team. Send us all the picks and prospects you can. Throwing darts blind basically at this point and some have to hit since no UFA or NTC/NMC player will come here.
