By losing in the cup finals McDavid was able to break yet another Gretzky record!

With all the fuzz around game 7, the fact that McDavid was able to break yet another Gretzky record has been lost in the shuffle. With 42 points in the playoff loss McDavid breaks Gretzky's record of most points in a playoff run while losing. The previous record was set by Gretzky who had 40 points back in 1992-93 when he lost in the finals. That makes it the 3rd Gretzky record broken this season and next year we might see the big one broken by Ovechkin. Wouldn't be surprised if McDavid comes back next year and breaks Gretzky's point record in the playoffs as well.

Sad all McDavid wants to do is break Gretzky's records, he doesn't have that winning DNA like Kevin Lowe or Jonathan Toews, I heard he even kept interrupting Knoblauch's pregame speech to tell everyone to sign up to BetMGM using his promo code.
McDavid needs to break the most amount intangibles in a season and playoffs to dethrone Jonathon Toews, the current record holder! Since these intangibles are intangible, we have to rely on our opinions...

McDavid and Drai were both injured. Drai was a shell of his former self in these finals. Similar boat to the Panthers in the 2023 finals. It happens....

Did Barkov's chin hurt Drai's flying elbow? Oh, pity.

3rd Gretzky record? What's the other one? I know most assists in playoffs but what's the other?

I would be surprised. but then again the West is pretty weak.
He definitely wont get 47 points in 18 games.

James Harden of the NHL
James Harden flops through contact and flails his arms/legs, much like the Panthers and Golden Knights

Honestly, McDavid would probably do well to take a page out of Harden’s book because so far the league does not call the same obstruction infractions on him that they do on everybody else(ie. bottom six scrubs)

At least the NBA gives harden his calls (and much more excessively),…
The NHL doesn’t even give their generational talents, a true opportunity to shine( like NFL, MLB and NBA) ,. They’d rather see their generational talents, truly “EARN IT” it just like Crosby taking a ridiculous amount of abuse through his prime compared to lesser players that PLAY LESS MINUTES WHILE BEING LESS DANGEROUS/easier to shut down within the rules.

It’s pretty clear that the referees in big games are scared to put the Oilers on the pp because they feel it’s “unfair or not real hockey”

It’s humourous how many times the oilers are put on the power play as a result of a make up call where the reffs would not call obstruction on McDavid(because I guess he’s just too good to stop legally so for the sake of the “integrity” of the game the referees let obvious stuff against him go
, but they’ll call some goofball shit a few minutes later as an obvious make up call

For me, it’s like déjà vu watching prime Crosby get obstructed/abused but even more more egregious, They’ve both had their injuries, but I’d argue McDavid has had better luck so far at least concussion wise

The NHL should be ashamed for allowing the circumstances that caused Crosby to miss the bulk of his prime(if nothing else it’s a shameful squander of a marketing opportunity) and McDavid’s career is trending in the same way, but he doesn’t have the early cups/competent management

Probably means the 8 points in back to back finals games, Gretzky had 7 (so did Lemieux, dunno about others, somewhat obscure record, which of course is the @Mulletman speciality)
