NJDs AHL team has been dead last in the league for a couple years. It desperately needs forward talent.Or more likely they use young kids who are looking to prove themselves.
Im talking in generalities here. Im traveling and haven't looked at NJs team, contracts or system. If NJ has absolutely zero prospects or deserving AHLers who deserve a short term call up/shot at the show, then sure keeping one or both of these guys probably makes some sense. Especially the north American who if I recall is on a slightly cheaper contract.
But even spending an extra 50k or what have you (and thats assuming its a 1way deal vs a far cheaper 2 way), if they know those two have no future and no value, then the contract/roster spots alone (as opposed to any budgetary considerations) may be enough to cut bait.
NJD only saves money if it replaces them with 2 way players in the AHL. which would be disappointing if the team was unwilling to roster a single AHLer on a 1 way deal
