Lots of talk that the Leafs are (were?) a buttery soft team, easy to play against, the concept of playing hard is for other teams, we are going to fancy our way through a game. Now that we picked up four hard to play against players, two players from St Lou and two from Chi-town, on the butter scale where does this team rank? Are we still buttery soft? Do we need to add more hard to play against players?

We were never soft.
It was a stupid narrative that people who disliked the Leafs came up with because the Leafs were too good to criticize anything else.
After the trades, "soft" claims have only become even more of a joke than they already were.

Playing (with) a certain style requires the necessary components, effective utilization and will. We'll find out where things are at come crunch time.

I Can't Believe It's Not Butter

Somewhere between cold butter and room temp butter. Like when you take a knife to the real block of butter but it's still a little cold and when you try to spread it it starts to roll instead of spreading. You keep trying but eventually you just give up and eat the roll with a large chunk of butter in the middle and each bite you take you try to get a little chunk of the butter and work around in a circle. It's still good, just very frustrating.

No one would deny they haven't been soft, not sure that's changed we've just gotten use to it.

It will be interesting to see if the new players can drag the rest into the fight or if the culture will tame their games.
ROR strikes me as a guy that only knows how to play one way and he's the type that players will follow.
I believe that was a big reason he was brought in.

There is enough toughness to spread around.
Matthews has no reason to be soft.
Tavares isn't soft.
O'Reilly isn't soft
Acciari isn't soft
McCabe isn't soft
Giordano isn't soft
Sandin isn't soft
Lafferty isn't soft
Liljegren isn't soft
Bunting is a weasel
LMAO.

Most haters are looking for arise out of people. Your ate right about that, more taunts of 1967 or first round 😏 they day it so confidently you know they think they came up with it. Most resort to becoming angry 😠 when you ask if they pay the same amount of attention to their own business.

Just like our defence saying it was bad

Don't worry there is a guy in Windsor - Wings fan driving a truck with personalized Leafs plates "RAJOKE"....so yes haters go to rather obscure extremes.

Or they were an easy team to play against, which was brought up by numerous opponents

On the butter scale, Leafs compare with cannabutter. Hard enough but a bit green with a tendency to melt when things heat up. Hopefully they'll do some baking before the playoffs and turn it into something effective without smelling up the house.

On the scale above the Leafs were room temperature butter, they got by on that great buttery taste but couldn't tear apart a piece of Wonderbra, let alone a firmed up dark and coarse roggenbrot. With the recent additions we'll be able to make a mess out of any 100% whole wheat and puncture wide gaping holes even the coarsest of Russian peasant breads.

No they weren't, and no it wasn't.
They were a highly skilled bunch but they couldn't wear down the top defences, and there own skilled forwards were often owned as recently as 3 years ago.
