Busting The Patrick Roy Myth

Didn't answer it sufficiently. He played with great players is a two sided argument. It's saying that Smith didnt have to be great to win. And maybe they should have won more. Roy played with great players as well in Colarado. He just was so much better than them in the playoffs.

Better than Sakic?

Billy Smith was the greatest money goalie to ever live. Roy was a machine in the playoffs but Smith could be a one man show himself and he was playing behind a team with what 4 HoF'rs?

-Cant take him over Roy overall but if you had to pick a goalie for a do or-die situation, hard to pass on Smith. Guy breathed fire and brimstone.

disagree and I am old enough to have seen that little psycho play

best Billy Smith story was after the final whistle of a game,. Smith made a B-line to the dressing room--he had already showed and changed and was heading out the door as the last NYI was just heading into the dressing room. Trottier has some great Smith stories

The Feb 20th list where I'd ranked Roy second is based on career achievements & stats. Roy got more Smythes and Vezinas than Billy so let him be higher.

However, my latest list where Smith had been ranked above Roy is based on who I see a better choice to start Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. I picked Billy (actually I explained that in one of my earlier posts in this thread).

And of course, Tretiak is the best choice to start game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals because he's sooo experienced there...:sarcasm:

Well, I think Tretiak had his proper Game 7 experience in the 1981 Canada Cup final when he faced the joint forces of the Isles, Gretzky, LaFleur, Dionne etc.
