I wouldn't assume he can be easily replaced. Robertson, Jarnkrok, Kerfoot, etc have been tried in the top 6, and none have been nearly as effective as Bunting. Just because you're playing with 2 of Matthews, Marner, Tavares, and Nylander doesn't at all make it a given that you'll be able to put up ~60 points.

I agree we can't just write a blank cheque here, but we got VERY lucky when we replaced Hyman with Bunting. I wouldn't assume we can easily do it again, especially as we've obviously been trying to fill the second top 6 LW spot for years, without success.
Very true. We were lucky to find Bunting. Hes not as good as Hyman though. Im a pretty strong believer Knies will be better than Bunting in no time. So if we are re-signig ROR for top 6 we might be okay to let him walk.

Keep in mind the source. Kypreos is a goof.

He's also the one who had Brandt Clarke as done deal traded by LA to Phoenix to Arizona. To the point teams/agents had to come out and deny it.

Not to mention his Matthews contract demands.

Looking for clicks, and he's being successful.

Just asking, not making a judgement here, but do his antics help or hinder the team?
His ability to agitate helps when drawing penalties for the opposition. It's always possible for such antics to hinder at times as well. You're thinking he was dropped down the lineup for reasons due to his antics? That at least makes more sense than it being for contractually related reasons.

Hes making it up for sure. But doesn't mean hes not in the ballpark. Production wise Bunting should be earning around that much.

Our LW depth is weak, even with Bunting.

Here are the projected 2023 LW UFA's that may/may not make it to Market:

Not the greatest..........

It will be interesting to see how it ends up for Bunting. He absolutely has been gifted playing with elite players in his time in Toronto, and he has to know that as well.

$3AVV? Get real.

Recent contracts from sane organizations:

Dylan Strome got $5AAV for producing similar numbers.
Zacha got $4.75M AAV for lesser numbers.
Trevor Moore got $4.2M AAV for even lesser numbers.

He could probably get $5 on the open market, but we certainly can't accommodate that.

The left side is obviously weak, but with Knies and Robertson still developing, it'd be questionable to give him huge money and term. I'd probably give him $4 x 4, but not much more than that.

See ya.

Don't want players to start thinking we boost their value by playing with top league players. Then they try to cash in on us or leave.... We made Bunting, we should hold all the leverage. Get your money but be reasonable to the team that helped get your value there.

We play you with good players so you can stay and take a pay cut... To continue playing with top league players.. if bunting thinks he's elite.. he can fool another team into thinking that. Bunting is replaceable.

He's not even getting us PP time any more... If anything hes been getting us in trouble now with the refs.

3.5 is what I'd give him... With all the raises coming up with other players why break the bank for Bunting?

What he can get and wants has to be weighed against the ++ on the Nylander and Matthews extensions.

With the Bally Sports issue the Cap Increase may not happen.

First the pandemic and now Bally Sports, it just never will be smooth sailing for Dubas.

thing is those players you mentioned are not the same as Hyman and Bunting, it's clear the style of player needed to work with those 2, guys that play a physical style, win puck battles down low, who when they get the puck on there stick look to move it quickly to Matthews/Marner and then go to the front of the net and be prepaid for quick passes or rebounds in tight. these are not characteristics of the guys you mentioned.

When people use absolutes to express themselves it reads as: anger, hatred, virgin, teenager.

Odd thing to say. Also funny because you appear to be upset with what I’ve said

Who would care enough to know such a thing?

We post on a board where people constantly post what Eklund says, let alone Kypreos, so you see enough of it just reading here.

Not sure why 'virgin, teenager' is an insult? I'd go back to those days in a heartbeat.

I miss Eklund rumours, that guy is/was legendary.

Very. He benefits a LOT from his linemates though. He's not a play driver. Very decent complimentary piece. Agitator, takes and draws a lot of penalties. He'll draw comparisons to Hyman and Mikheyev, but IMO he's not as solid or as effective down low as Hyman and not as fast as Micky. He has a knack for going to and being in the right places and scores the grimy goals as a result. $5M / year may be something other teams that do not have our roster composition can give him, but he won't get that here.
