Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

Yes I remember. People talk about the Colin Campbell thing like it's some sort of conspiracy but we have actual evidence of him manipulating games for his son's benefit and the league didn't even reprimand him. It's not even a conspiracy haha.
I hope all posters recognize the difference between conspiracy theory and conspiracy. I'm not so sure anymore.

Brown, Henrique, Frederic not so hot this game.... all the rest of the Oilers were pretty solid overall.
Brown should improve, missed a few games + wasn't he sick and a game time decision? He may not be 100% by Friday, but the 3 day break for Game 3 should give him the time he needs to get over whatever he's dealing with.

heh. I was conceived in Jasper, my favorite place on Earth. Oilers weren't around yet.
Jasper, that brings back memories. My brother-in-law was a controller for the Four Seasons hotel in Edmonton back in the early 80's. That hotel had an arrangement with the Jasper Park Lodge to provide free lodgings to the management groups of each establishment. My husband and I travelled from Ottawa to Edm to visit them for 2 weeks, my sister was pregnant at the time. We spent a weekend at the Lodge: beautiful rooms, breathtaking scenery and amazing food. We were in one of their cabins, room service was delivered on bicycles. Their lounge was featuring a live band where the lead singer performed amazing impersonations of various singers, including females. He dressed each part and sounded exactly like them. I remember he did ZZ Top, Tina Turner, etc.. He was so good, we went the next night to see them again. That's a place I'd like to visit again.

That Perry pass on that winner was low key elite, looked like he was back playing with Getzlaf with that feed
As a Sens fan, I remember those days quite vividly. Ducks had a monster team in 2007: Pronger, Neidermeyer, Perry, Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan at his peak. Well, if you're going to lose, at least it was to some of the best players in the game at that time.

I don’t disagree with the examples that you mention. But this is a league with low levels of integrity and consistency. We’ve seen the Oilers targeted on several occasions for changes to, or application of, the rules. Recall when the league pro-rated Lucic’s goal totals so that Edmonton was unfairly penalized for the fact that there was a worldwide pandemic. Recall when the league vetoed salary cap recapture when Duncan Keith retired. For no apparent reason at all. Those are real incidents that negatively impacted this team.

But to speak about the present, and mention two things that bother me. First, it is a matter of grave concern that Florida has the father of one of their executives in a top decision making position within the league. That should not be permitted because it requires of everyone else to rest easy in the integrity of the Campbell family. Sorry, and no offense to the family, I’m not comfortable with that and I don’t see why anyone would be. I’m not saying that calls are made to the war room and influence is exerted by Campbell Sr. But I’m not saying I’m confident that it doesn’t happen either. Maybe calls don’t even need to be made. Maybe the people looking at the video already intuitively know what their marching orders are when it comes to borderline calls and the Florida Panthers.

Second, and I have to admit that I didn’t really look into this, but Ekblad was found to be using PEDs during the playoffs last season. It was rumored that he wasn’t alone. He served his suspension and that’s great. But has there been any extra scrutiny on the player or the team this season? I understand that the nhlpa has probably negotiated the flimsiest of all drug testing policies into the cba. But why is that allowed? Offenders should face extra scrutiny. In many other sports they would. Do you feel confident that something shady hasn’t gone on again at some point this year? Was the league transparent with the ticket buying public on how that incident was handled and what steps were taken to avoid a repeat? Was anyone on the Panthers even tested this year? I consider myself a pretty hardcore fan and I didn’t see any press releases that left me feeling comforted.

So yeah, ‘conspiracy theories’ sometimes get taken to extremes by passionate fans. But this league is miles behind where it ought to be when it comes to integrity, transparency and consistency. It’s difficult for me to blame some fans when they imagine the worst. Looking at you Bettman.
The Ekblad PED thing has things we don't know and I don't see any indication that he's getting special treatment or not getting follow up. We just don't know how any of that works. As for the Campbell thing, that is worth keeping an eye on. We still need some proof that we are targeted in these series before I say something wrong is going on.

The pro rating and draft pick compensation is rough but not completely blatant either. It's only about 3 instances dating back a long time.

Just like how the draft lottery proved there was no conspiracy, why would the league rig things on the outcome of games? There is some potential gains but think of the massive negatives that would come if the rigging were exposed. That even goes if someone blows the whistle on Campbell putting his finger on the scales. It would destroy the sport. Look at the damage to the NBA after one ref was shown to influence calls just to cover the spread.

Re: Colin Campbell, he's literally pulled this shit previously. That guy and the NHL get absolutely zero benefit of the doubt.

rewatching the OT goal on the break in that rat marchand takes out bouchards legs. slippery play and i hate him cause we are playing him but its a headsup play on the break-in eliminating an option
My sister that never watches hockey was at the game and asked me who that little guy was that kept running around hitting people and no one smashed him.

That's interesting and I didn't know all that. But I'd doubt he'd have so much control that he could rig things against us without anyone else knowing. But mostly I'd want some proof that foul play is happening on the ice. So far, it's totally fine. Both teams got penalties and both teams got away with stuff

I am not 100% sure what your point is here. Are you saying revenue sharing hurts Canadian teams chances of winning?
The board of governors each get one vote on the direction of the NHL. If there are more American teams, with the current revenue sharing model introduced by one Gary Bettman, which includes interlinked components and workings dictating how much revenue each club will receive. Which way is the vote going to go? You know this. I know you do.

Even Canadian board of governors may vote against the interest of Canadian franchises if it means they'll profit more. The benefits are many and I'm not going to pretend I know half of the loopholes in Canada when it comes to this shit. Did I mention the board of governors are the owners or their intermediaries. Of course you know this.

Some of the nontraditional American markets would dry up if there wasn't interest generated from playoff success. C'mon man, I know you understand 100% of this so why play? Tell me why, I'll understand.
