Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

Leons OT goal was eerily similiar to McDavids 4N winner.

The panthers just inexcusably left him uncovered and pinched in to attack McDavid giving Connor and Leon a 2 on 1 right in front of the net, instead of the slot, and shifted over a little bit. Great goal and dumb error from Barkov and Jones. They didn't cover each other on the rotation. I know it was a PP but the Oilers did did a great of isolating them.

Kulak didn't struggle to the degree that say Ceci or VD would. Theres perceived struggle due to him being a mortal D playing along giants. Its that the other D are looking so good. Any opponent of ours that we've seen, every series has D that are struggling more.
Any of the lefties on D forced to play on their backhand have struggled (relative to their peers). The numbers show that for Kulak and Nurse the last two games after Ekholm returned to the line-up. Kulak despite his struggles, appears to be the best option among the 4 options available.

Worst case scenario, Stecher's numbers suggest he, as a rightie, could step in and perform to a high level. I know people are worried about his size under an aggressive forecheck, but, as you mentioned, there's rarely a perfect option. It's great to have 7 SCF worthy defenders.

I think in many ways the increased number of "automatic" penalties has impacted the game in that refs want to call less infractions that directly impact the play to keep the number of penalties down. It's a big reason I've made arguments about changing some of these automatic infractions to some new less impactful penalty/disadvantages so that penalties for real infractions get called more often.

I'm curious how you would see that working.

There is nothing worse than watching referees simply ignore a run of very obvious interpretation penalties as a rule, then see them enthusiastically throw their arm up for some incidental high stick somewhere that has no relevance to anything. If you're going to willingly look the other way on the blatant hook two minutes earlier, could you have just done the same thing for the stick that grazed a guy's visor 30 feet from the play?

Is that how you see yourself?

Because this is what people see when you post:

Not sure how some of you are able to handle the mains. It's just all Florida bandwagoning and excuses.. yesterday's game was almost a carbon copy of Kings/Oilers game 4.
it comes down to being trolled by other fans feels better than getting trolled by Oilers fans.

No one ever called me Skinners relative on the mains. Or questioned my "fandom" because i didn't write a 20 page essay on why I hate Skinner.

There are some chill people on the Mains.

Yeah I’ve never been told I stalk Stuart Skinner on the mains just on here. Mains are often more reasonable.

Just saying that any report of any our D "struggles" can be taken into context that Panthers have been capable of caving other teams for years. They had trouble setting up in our zone. Our D play has been impeccable overall, or as good as it gets. I've never seen Oilers D this deep,

Props to Bowman for bringing some of these guys in. Podz, Kap, etc … they’re mandatory depth players for a group like this. Remind me a bit of Archibald.

This is the best D group Edmonton has probably ever had? One of the old timers might be able to correct me.

Nurse being the outlier for struggle. It must be annoying having 5 of your D seamlessly move the puck while one is still fumbling — despite being your highest paid defender.

I think Nurse was neutered at some point. Confidence issues? I noticed he’s clean shaven. Related to his genetic disorder?

Either way, something happened to this guy. He can’t move the puck. He is our biggest guy back there and used to be violent. I remember thinking he may end up as Pronger-LITE. We need his violence back in a bad way or he isn’t bringing anything. He’s lost on the PK and cost us that Marchand GA straight up. He costs us many goals against…

It’ll never happen but scratching him would be ideal.

Kulak-Bouchard
Ekholm-Stetcher
Walman-Klingberg

Is honestly better. Everyone plays their correct side as well. Nurse is hampering us every time he touches the ice.

He is less physical than Stetcher, worse with the puck … he is only in the lineup as a matter of vet principle.

Great game last night. Skinner keeps that up and we sweep.

Ok, I had to look at CalgaryPuck. Seems their trying to cope about McDavid and the Oilers inching closer and closer has turned their thread about our series into an argument if their own team should tank or not, or that they should have already intentionally tanked long ago.

Ironic that the best performer on Florida was a 4th overall pick of Calgary's that they gave up on and threw away for pennies.

I was one of Skinner’s biggest critics but I’ve chilled out on him quite a bit. I like seeing his playoff stats go up.

I posted some stuff I regret in the heat of the moment, but you got to admit after Game 2 in round 1 he looked pretty bad, bad enough to warrant Pickard making an emergency appearance(s).

If I had one tiny critique lately it’s that his lateral movement wasn’t quick enough on Marchand’s goal but it doesn’t matter, Oilers still won the game. He clearly owns the Stars.

It's so good lol

Someone mentioned in this PGT that they could’ve sworn it was Kane yelling at him.

I was laughing so hard at the fact Kane went up to Nosek and was screaming when it happened. I was certain it was Kane too. Not even a question.

I guess these Semitic, Fertile Crescent types with dark beards like Walman can pass as African American at high speed or something. That is absolutely bonkers that it isn’t Kane. My mind is blown.

Edit: maybe it’s the teeth…

Idk, I think the Panthers deserve more credit there than the US did at 4 nations.

The OT goal was a fairly textbook example of a PP isolating defenders for 2 on 1s; there's like 4 in a row from McDavid to Nuge, Nuge to Bouchard, Bouchard back to Nuge, Nuge to Perry, Perry to McDavid, and then McDavid to Draisaitl.

It's hard to to argue that the Panthers D shouldn't be contesting Nuge at the point, or Perry on the wall, and then you can't let McDavid walk into the slot all alone so they need to leave Draisaitl for Davo.

That leaves one other guy to contest between Bouchard and Draisaitl who are both in prime scoring areas. Arguably is probably better for the high left side of the box to contest Draisaitl than to contest Bouchard like he did - but that's a contextual thing and if it's not Draisaitl there you're more scared of Bouchard. And if he contested Draisaitl - McDavid would have found Bouchard alone between the dots with an absurd uncontested shit with the best two players in the world crashing the crease.

Florida is such between a rock and a hard place there.

The 4N goal McDavid is just kind of inexplicably left by Matthews at 5 on 5 - too afraid of Marner who didn't really have a lane to the net.

I would actually be in favor of having 1 min penalties for things like puck over the glass. We have minor, double minor, and major already, so the league is fine with differently sized penalties already. Why not add a smaller one for a few things? Puck over glass, closing hand on the puck, the faceoff penalties (double kick out and hand pass) are all ones I would be behind having as 1 min penalties. I'm sure there are more, those were just top of head.

I thought the Panthers played it perfectly actually. Was exactly how I wanted them to play it 😎

GV means giveaway.

I swear, you're the Elmer Fudd of this board...

Lol. Guess you missed the pick off at the blueline that lead to an odd man. It was a scenario where he should had got it deep at the end of a shift.

Don't worry, you can go to NHL.com highlights. They specifically show that play in their game recap as a chance for FLA

Watch games...not stats. It'll help
