Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

That game truly was a spectacle. Both teams played well defensively but still were able to generate enough offense against good defense to make it entertaining. Both goalies made enough saves to confidently say they did enough for their team to win, but neither to the point of stealing which sometimes taints a game. The physicallity was absurd (over 100 hits combined). And ultimately in the end, the team that won was likely the better team overall through the 78 minutes.

It was a perfect showcase for how good hockey can be.
From a purist pov that appreciates D it was a spectacularly played game. Absolute highest level. Like I been saying no other teams are in this space. Its Oilers-Panthers then rest of league.

at 3-3 I was reminded of the 1970's Habs vs Red Army game. Was a classic. Sometimes its hard to see that in actual time but people will go back to this game one as one of the greats.

Oilers are putting up a lot of great games. This was our best game one SC finalresult since 1990. Not sure if everybody aware of that magnitude.

Frederic wasn't good at anytime of the season this year. not sure if he isn't just one of those players that runs around and does well initially and then not much of anything.

Next Frederic has always been casper the ghost in the playoffs. just an ordinary playoff player. He doesn't get anything in postseason.

Team may not want to extend this player. Not just his production down but he was -16 this season on even limited play. He's just plain bad now.

Looked like he had a solid playoff last year and 35 goals 70 points the prior two seasons to this one in an 11-13 minute role. Big, can be physical, 27 years old, proven goal scoring ability. I can see the appeal of signing this player but it's risky if it's a multi-year deal at a moderate caphit and right now he's just not doing much to help the team in a team full of guys up and down the lineup that have so might be time to switch him out for a fresher guy.

Thinking of spending the stupid amount of money it costs to get tickets to fly from TO to Edmonton for game 5. I live in London, but still leaf land. Anyone have any idea's on the best place to get a hotel room. Any gems to consider or what have you? Likely the play is to try and get into the Moss Pit to watch the game. My 17 year old son and I need to experience this crazy energy we keep seeing on TV.
Anywhere downtown will do, but book quickly. Supposedly downtown hotel rooms were booked to capacity yesterday and will be tomorrow so you can imagine the rush for game 5.

Every bar downtown will be packed and lively. Moss Pit and the Oilers tent are both options to with the Moss Pit generally being a younger crowd.

1 goal was. I can't agree with you on being 2 because the Oilers chose that route, to challenge, and allowed the goal on the pk. I get what you mean but not gonna count 2.

Just to be clear I think the NHL should book history on such players and tactics as Bennett. But its crystal clear that they don't. The Oilers know that, that the NHL will be completely oblivious to anything Bennett does, he could be smashing a chair over a goalies head (jk, just making a reference) and the NHL would play 3 blind mice.

So that its possible to think both it was Bennett being Bennett, and that the NHL wasn't going to take the goal back.
Exactly. This is a perfect example of applying the rules specific to a player. Bennett has already knocked one goalie out of the playoffs and attempted to do so with another. So in this case you call off the goal if you want to send a message, the message being that you can occupy the net front if you like, but if you touch the goalie before the goal goes in, it won’t count. Anything besides that is giving Bennett license to continue his “oopsy daisy, excuse me!” crap and to continue pushing the envelope because there is apparently no line to even cross. He’s the poster child for intent to injure and the league refuses to address it.

Edit to add: I don’t think the league is oblivious at all, which makes it even more frustrating. They are fully aware and have consciously decided it’s not an issue.

He has 55 career goals and he's 27. Vast majority of his goals occurred in that two year span, beyond that he's been a nothingburger. His calling card was physical play and hitting and not sure if he's lost a thirst for that or just won't be that anymroe and can't. Even Raffi Torres turned into nothing subsequent to knee injuries. For Raffi he couldn't power up and use full body force for the hits anymore. need full health to do that and for physical players 100% sometimes doesn't ever recur or come back.

The point with Frederic is he HAS to be able to be a force, to be physical at this level, which backs people off. Without that key ingredient he's not much.

Go take a look at every hit hyman has made this playoffs I guarantee you 90 percent of them are as hard as any Kane hit this playoffs.
meh, Hyman finished his checks and hit lots. Kane pummeled through players and inflicted pain.

comparing jabs to knockout punches. Kane didnt really care about separating puck from the player... He wanted to inflict pain.

The best example of this idiocy is in the Bouchard thread, where his only remaining hater said Bouchard had a bad game last night because of one giveaway, ignoring literally every stat or metric that suggested Bouchard was among the very best players in the game.

If this is about me then: huh?

Yeh, him playing this way might allow us to keep him past this series. People on main boards were projecting to get 4 to 5 million per in his next contract.

interestingly his first game as an Oiler where he got injured fairly early was his best game for us. The guy looked like Kane lite with his physical play and chirps.

Again, one of the best players in the game last night, but I know you can't mentally process statistics or perform a basic eye test.

I'm not disputing if he had a bad game or not. Ofcourse that's the direction you'll take it.
I'm just pointing out that in your crusade to trash another poster, you manipulate facts...which is your MO

Bouchard played awesome ....but it was TWO significant giveaways that lead to scoring chances for the other team. Your dishonesty continues

Separating head from body. After a Kane hit you get up wondering if all your bones or body parts are still connected. He Explodes through a hit. its a Pronger level hit, at least. Hyman is a good hitter and hurts some people too but mostly a volume hitter. In fairness to Hyman physiologically there is no way he could hit as hard as Kane who is made for this.

Is that how you see yourself?

Because this is what people see when you post:

I wish there was some discretion for the penalty on a failed challenge especially in the playoffs. I understand why the penalty is there. But on really debatable calls and with how inconsistent the league is, it’s pretty sh*tty. Has the ability to change the game too much.

Not really complaining because it helped us in the Kings series. Didn’t help us tonight. But I think its makes the league look like a clown show.
IMO this is a vast improvement from the old rules, like when a skate maybe being 1 inch into the crease 3 feet away from the goalie would be enough to get a good goal called back.

I agreed with the official ruling on Fla's goal. I knew we were getting a 2-minute minor for that challenge.
