Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

45 of the Oilers 89 shots/attempts came from their blueline.

I think that's HUGE... that's half of the offensive traction coming from the blueline and that mobility and offensive push from the D was a major factor in the game.

Florida got 27 of 84 of their shots/attempts from their blueline.

Oilers advantage is they legit have 6 dmen who can move the puck and create chances/opportunities and that's draining for the opposition who have to worry about the dmen just as much as the forwards.
The Oilers' Blueline is way deeper and you can see it in how many guys played in the ot v. the 4.5 defensemen the Panthers used and how they wore down. Without oel and Montour, they're way thinner back there.

Yup, he needs to grow a pair IMO. Stop being such a p****

He doesn't need to say anything. You do not get into the ref's good books by publicly shaming them.

They caught an NHL referee on microphone saying he was leaning towards issuing a penalty to a team for no other good reason other than he wanted to. And you want Knob to go out and publicly call these guys out?

You want him to call out the refs so you feel validation for your own frustration.

It will not benefit the team whatsoever. Give me one instance where a coach has publicly shamed the refs and it has worked in their favor.

You would think that a player that knocked Stolarz out of that series, gave Andersen a deliberate hit to the head might have a bit of a rep with the league, but it's the exact opposite, he has impunity, and we all know why.
This shit is why I just follow along online refreshing score updates.

I hate how the NHL is just fine with players getting cheap shotted a lot of the time.

Still have to read this entire thread, but man, big props to Evander Kane.

How many people said that this guy would be toast?

This guy is the definition of BRASS BALLS. This guy is the definition of CONFIDENCE. He gives ZERO F****S out there. just demolishes guys

Also Kap. Nice give and go with McDaddy on the tying goal

That really pisses me off because Bennett should have a reputation by now as a guy you can't give the benefit of the doubt to when he's sitting in a goalies lap. You can see him losing his balance but purposely giving an extra push to the side to make sure he goes into Skinner. And there was no actual trip there, just 2 guys going opposite directions hitting feet. Kulak could have just as easily fallen, especially if he was looking for an excuse to fall like Bennett was. Incidental contact on a guys foot 5 feet away from your goalie while you are skating away from the goalie is not a reason to negate goalie interference.
You could hear this playing as Bennet went into Skinner's lap:

He looks just busted. Probably needs the summer to get his body fixed up. Wonder if he would sign cheap for a year to try to get back on track. He had a pretty weak season.
One year prove that you got it deal should help both sides.

1.25M x 1yr should be the offer for ALL of Frederic, Kapanen, Perry, Brown, J.Skinner and Klingberg

It was so fun watching the Oilers' absolutely make Ekblad's night just miserable. My favourite was a shift or 2 before the goal, Ekblad is in Podkolzin's face and Podkolzin has the biggest smile knowing he's getting to him and knowing he won't stop for even a second

If the crowd isn't chanting "STER-OIDS" every time Ekblad has the puck what are we even doing?

It's about planting seeds my man. It has never hurt any team this playoffs.

Knob doesn't have to act like a fool. Just talk in an articulate manner about non calls, etc. We just brush it completely away.

Yes, we brush it away because it does absolutely nothing to benefit the team.

They won the game and you want him to sit up there and complain about the refs? You think the refs are dumb enough they won't see he is low-key throwing jabs at them?

In a league with already horrible officiating, you want the coach to call them out? If you think calling out the refs will do anything other than give the refs a "f*** you" attitude towards the Oilers, you're dreaming.

Absolutely 0 benefit doing so. Negative benefit, outside of validating fans emotional state. Which is why fans want him to do it.

It is a rather interesting situation we are in. Lot's of UFA's that we'd love to bring back, but we kinda need value deals. Now we were getting those as we were a contender and guys wanted to win a cup, but if we win the cup you are going to have guys chasing the money and then there are going to be others that will want it again.

I get both sides of it and can't blame a guy for chasing money, although I'd love the two guys in Perry and Klingberg who have made piles to take team friendly deals.

He was in beast mode for sure.
Also a Kane hit is not the same as a Hyman or Kapanen hit. He goes right through the opponents doing a lot more damage. His 9 hits must have left big marks on the Panthers.

Klingberg missed on out a 7yr x 7M per deal so he might be looking to get paid after this run. Not in the same boat as Perry.

I like when he eyeballs the guys after or chirps after the whistle. The whole "what you gonna do about it part" is rather funny as really I don't think anyone wants to fight Kane in game 1 of the finals.

This series is built for guys like Podz, Kapanen, Frederic, Kane. Previous one was more for RNH, Brown, Janmark etc for depth scoring.
agree 100%
I always said, for every good line on cup winning teams, u need sandpaper, set-up, and sniper. Case in point? Isles dynasty team
Gilles - Sandpaper
Trottier - set-up
Bossy - sniper

If Kane was on a goalies lap like that with a goal going in, it would have been waved off by a screaming angry ref. And we would have had to challenge, and probably would have lost it.

I feel like the need to have the initial call overturned is like a massive mountain to climb. There has to be absolutely no doubt the ref was wrong to reverse the initial call. If the replay gives any possible out at all to avoid embarrassing the ref, they take it.

Oh well though, adversity is good, as long as you end up winning :). And we got some of the dumb stuff out of our system early in the game instead of the 3rd period like game 1 vs Dallas. Now back to business. I know we can play even better than last night.
Imo getting it wrong just to save "embarrassment," which I'm sorry if your job is done in front of millions on TV you need thicker skin, is more embarrassing to the entire officials group and league.

Kane gets pushed into a goalie and it's taken back. Kulak's leg ...apparently? touches Bennett's leg and he flies into our goalie and it's good...

There’s a legit argument to be made that, in the playoffs, there isn’t a better dman in the NHL today. He’s that special
Bouchard has taken his game to another stratosphere even from where it was last playoffs. He put up the bigger offensive numbers last playoffs but I feel his overall game is even better in this run which is crazy considering how he played during the season with so many brain farts. Some players are made for playoff hockey, Bouch is one of them. He's going to get the huge contract and he'll be worth every penny of it.

5v5 goals with Bouchard on the ice are 17-3 Oilers since game 1 against Vegas.

Nobody is talking about him for Conn Smythe when IMO he should be the clear favourite.
