Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

It's very frustrating knob head doesn't stick up for his team more and is such a p***y at press conferences. Bennet intentionally fell back on skinner. Panthers took several cheap shots and interference against oilers as they have whole playoffs. Somebody tell knob head being so politically correct and nice and a total square isn't helping him with refs. And what's with mcdavid just casually accepting a push from marchand without standing up for himself. We need to stick up for ourselves more because being p***yes isn't getting us more calls
This is true. Once Bennett or Tkachuk falls onto the goalie's head on purpose it will be too late to bring attention to it.

Lord thundering Jesus! What a game! And it wasn't even close to our best. Being up 1-0 is only going to take the teams hunger to the next level!

Get stronger on the sticks for the loose puck battles, stop the blueline entry across ice passes the Panthers are waiting for and bump up the front of crease coverage battle. If we give them the same treatment we are receiving the Bennet interference goal never happens.

We got this!

So last night was only the seventh time all post-season that a goalie had a better than .900 svp against the Oilers. Better than half the time they are making the opposition netminder look replacement level.

That they still won with Bobbrovsky playing that well and with the ability of their shooters to exploit goalies is very, very encouraging.
Take 100 shots on that guy per game if it gets it done. He cannot and will not stop them all, and we need to severely maim and injure those who want to flop on our goalies. Destroy these idiots on the ice!

the speed rush is really our only weakness on the back end and other than Verhaguee and bennett the panthers dont have that element

I think it’s Skinner who is prone to the rush. So the defense need to make sure they limit the rush so we don’t bleed goals against. If we can limit the chances off rush, then Skinner has a chance to post 900 plus.

45 of the Oilers 89 shots/attempts came from their blueline.

I think that's HUGE... that's half of the offensive traction coming from the blueline and that mobility and offensive push from the D was a major factor in the game.

Florida got 27 of 84 of their shots/attempts from their blueline.

Oilers advantage is they legit have 6 dmen who can move the puck and create chances/opportunities and that's draining for the opposition who have to worry about the dmen just as much as the forwards.

Just watched the hilites of the game again.

Oilers played a solid game even though the second period wasn’t on their side, the third period more than made up for it.

Also, my personal fave hilight of the game was when Kane absolutely crushed Ekblad behind the net (in the first period I think). Love that kind of game from Evander.

Really this is a lot of goalies in the league. You start attacking with speed and getting a goalie moving side to side and a lot struggle. Should really be trying to limit chances of the rush regardless of who is in the net

There was a lot of those wrecking ball situations yesterday that would get the crowd going, was great to see

CP posters even have a logo mixed of Panthers and Flames. How desperate do you have to be?

BWT, I think their pregame thread is longer than ours.

I could hardly breathe through my mouth that long to read it.

As he should, from what we’ve seen all season in our games that’s pretty much an automatic no goal.

If Kane was on a goalies lap like that with a goal going in, it would have been waved off by a screaming angry ref. And we would have had to challenge, and probably would have lost it.

I feel like the need to have the initial call overturned is like a massive mountain to climb. There has to be absolutely no doubt the ref was wrong to reverse the initial call. If the replay gives any possible out at all to avoid embarrassing the ref, they take it.

That really pisses me off because Bennett should have a reputation by now as a guy you can't give the benefit of the doubt to when he's sitting in a goalies lap. You can see him losing his balance but purposely giving an extra push to the side to make sure he goes into Skinner. And there was no actual trip there, just 2 guys going opposite directions hitting feet. Kulak could have just as easily fallen, especially if he was looking for an excuse to fall like Bennett was. Incidental contact on a guys foot 5 feet away from your goalie while you are skating away from the goalie is not a reason to negate goalie interference.

Oh well though, adversity is good, as long as you end up winning :). And we got some of the dumb stuff out of our system early in the game instead of the 3rd period like game 1 vs Dallas. Now back to business. I know we can play even better than last night.

Idk, I don't think you can be 100% they'll even drop the puck with this league.

I will say I felt fairly confident though. Like 98%. Letting this stand as a goal means if there is any contact at all with a defender within 5 ft of the net you can bowl right over the Goaltender. Which... Horrific standard to set in my opinion. But as long as it's followed when Perry or Kane do it... (Which I have my doubts....)

I think it's actually more egregious than the Kesler play, but that might be recency bias and considering the two coincidental variables they ruled both in Bennett's favor.

In any case - setting the standard this way benefits us, assuming equal chances of a ton of net contact injuring either Goaltender. The gap between Bob and.... Who backs up Bob? 😂 Is much larger than the gap between Skinner and Pickard.

I agree with Knob though - honestly, I think I challenge that every time. Honestly, I would probably challenge it again on Friday, assuming it's also in the first period.
Normally we agree on almost anything. I think you lost your way on this one. Theres no way its more egregious than the Kesler one. Kesler actually grabbed the goalie. That wasn't even subjective, it was blatant. It wasn't even disguised. It was an undisputed action, and I think visually, implied intent at least.

In anycase we're talking about a goal being erased from the board, that was allowed in real time so that the play involves overturning. Theres never going to be 98% in that. Just the fact that its an overturn involved.

Also the challenge didn't work, it didn't erase the goal, and it did cause the next pk and goal. I think sometimes, and it happens to all of us, we just get set in what our opinion is. Theres several reasons which I listed that you don't make that challenge. The number 1 being its compounding potential swing in the momentum game of hockey.

the Oilers are good enough that you should not challenge that goal and just allow the Oilers to get the lead back. Ultimately it made us come from behind which is more difficult, generally.
