Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

Kane doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on that play. Perry doesn't get the benefit of the doubt on that play. Yet a guy who does this EXACT play by flopping into a goalie the second he feels contact and literally took out a starting goaltender THIS playoffs gets the benefit of the doubt.

f*** you NHL and f*** you Gregory Campbell. The bias is f***ing real.
lol Kane got a charging penalty for getting blasted into the goalie.

This is 3D Chess with the league and refs, Knob knew that goal was going to stand because there was contact. but he isolated and made the offcials on ice and off ice see that bennett is intentionally falling towards the goalie. He knows that if that happens again the call will go his way and it could be the difference between a stanley cup win and not. Big Brain move, he gambled on his PK to make that call and that didnt pan out but hes cofident enough in his team they can make it up....which they did.
Knob doesn't make that challenge if there's 10 minutes left in a 1-1 game. 50 minutes left you take that chance.

Almost every series we have played in memory has at least one game where circus bullshit occurs whether it be with our own play, the officiating, or both, and the other team almost always gets a free win off of it. There is a lot of series left, but I wonder if the Wes McAuley show in the first period was it and the Panthers missed the opportunity for a freebie.

That was a close, blow for blow game, but I don't know if it would have got that way had they not been handed two goals. If that McDavid chance shorthanded is a half inch lower I don't know if we don't roll over them 3 or 4 nothing. The back and forth nature of the rest of that game was caused ultimately by Wes McAuley. I don't think the game goes that way if that f***ing idiot just stayed out of it.

We're lucky to have Wes McAuley's biggest fan and stalker @Bumblebee Man right here on this board.

I actually agree because it’s clear as day was Bennett is doing there, bulldozing his way towards the net, knowing there’s gonna be some sort of contact with the defender and then falling forward into the goalie but I look at it from the point of view of an officiating stand point where they aren’t going to admit fault and overturn a call unless it’s blatantly obvious and the accidental clash of skates between Bennett and the Oilers player is all they need to uphold their initial.
But the reasoning is such bullshit anyway. If he's not skating backwards and is actually tripped by Kulak he falls straight down, since he fell backwards he had momentum going backward so he tripped himself over Kulaks' skate then made an extra dive in to the goalie for good measure. It's f***ing textbook incidental contact which should overturns the goal. This f***ing league is a joke anyway.

Good call. Tough call between Ekblad and Bennet. They both chew my ass.
It was so fun watching the Oilers' absolutely make Ekblad's night just miserable. My favourite was a shift or 2 before the goal, Ekblad is in Podkolzin's face and Podkolzin has the biggest smile knowing he's getting to him and knowing he won't stop for even a second

100% if we are going to complain about the refs lets shift focus to the linesman, stop kicking people out every faceoff

Everyone wearing stripes last night, including the linesmen, were absolutely pathetic.

Actually I should say that I thought Charron was ok, but McAuley can't help but make himself the game and the linesmen were as bad.

Literally no winning with leaf fans.

It used to be "He can't win in Edmonton so he's coming home".

Now it's "Hes going to win in Edmonton so he can finally come home".

Bunch of mouth breathers.
I mean should we be shocked?

Pre-Hyman their forwards were just as good as ours

Lately, well Hyman is a product of who is playing with.

So which is it, because if your forwards are just as good as yours than Hyman should've gotten those kinda points in Toronto too. Then they spin into the whole it was a cap thing.

Very hard to keep track of lol

Outside of McAuley who goes over the top at times with his calls on reviews, I feel all the stripes are the same in this league.

One question. Did you ever doubt the goal would be taken back. We're you sure? My own take is its possible that the goal was going to stand. Its what I felt.

The NHL and most leagues create their own problems when going into interpretive or subjective areas. Did Bennett fall on purpose into Skinner, or was he pushed. Could even be that both occurred, which is more salient precursor.

The trouble is we can't mind read, and the NHL isn't into priors in such reviews and that this isn't a court of law tribunal where you can take weeks or years to make a decision and still get it wrong.

The fact that its interpretive and subjective goes into gray area where you can't be sure.

I mean this isn't even remotely comparable to the Kesler play. just saying.

Maybe the league should review priors but I think its clear they don't do that.

But its further reason why the Oilers shouldn't have challenged. It wasn't going to be a clear outcome.

10/10 nah, You know it isn't that.

Idk, I don't think you can be 100% they'll even drop the puck with this league.

I will say I felt fairly confident though. Like 98%. Letting this stand as a goal means if there is any contact at all with a defender within 5 ft of the net you can bowl right over the Goaltender. Which... Horrific standard to set in my opinion. But as long as it's followed when Perry or Kane do it... (Which I have my doubts....)

I think it's actually more egregious than the Kesler play, but that might be recency bias and considering the two coincidental variables they ruled both in Bennett's favor.

In any case - setting the standard this way benefits us, assuming equal chances of a ton of net contact injuring either Goaltender. The gap between Bob and.... Who backs up Bob? 😂 Is much larger than the gap between Skinner and Pickard.

I agree with Knob though - honestly, I think I challenge that every time. Honestly, I would probably challenge it again on Friday, assuming it's also in the first period.

I have a feeling the Oilers are doing a bit of that Muhhamed- Ali thing they did to Dallas.
Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not great at dissecting plays or strategies).

The Oilers seem to be incredible at MOVING The puck, but aside from a few players (McD, Janmark, Kapi) we don't transport the puck a lot. We pass it more than skate it.

What we then do, is force the other team to skate laps and laps and laps and laps, and they basically empty the tank in the 2nd period and have nothing left in the 3rd (Easy to do with a team that's identity is a relentless forecheck). Put it past them, and watch them skate furiously back. Skate all the way in to forecheck, skate all the way back, skate skate skate skate skate.

I'm not sure if there's an advanced stat that tracks 'distance skated', but it wouldn't surprise me if their skaters skated nearly twice the distance before the 3rd period than ours did.

Florida were gasping for air in overtime, and just kept icing the puck.
They were holding on for dear life in the 3rd and OT. Just like Game 3 vs Dallas.

I think as the series goes on, if they continue with this same gameplan, they're going to end up like Dallas. Just out of gas at puck drop.

Especially when you combine it with our superior depth. We keep coming back in the 3rd because we roll 4 lines, and 3 d pairings, and by the end of the game, our top guys can still go flat out against gassed player

Well after a few rounds of mostly resignation at the Oilers winning, the salt is now back in full force over at CP lmao.
I don't think the little brother envious hatred for the Oilers ever really stops there, even temporarily

Seems like they're full on turning every discussion into the "we need to tank" discussions that Oiler fans went through in the late 2010s though. Calgary's ownership is pretty shitty however, so I doubt they'll ever get a real shift in team building mindset over there as long as Edwards and friends are in charge.

You're off on one of your weird tangents again. You're congratulating a fanbase for not complaining about a puck over glass AUTOMATIC penalty. Half their fanbase probably doesn't even know the rule and the other half couldn't spell overtime if you spotted them the O and the T.

Just continue on your weird diatribes and calling out Oilers fans....for reasons? Weird takes, man.

Nay, man your skin is very thin

Looking at the stats... Oilers scored 1 goal in every period... they were the steady unwavering force that in the end beat the Panthers who blew their load early and couldn't stay with the Oilers as the game progressed.

Oilers have the stamina and determination this year to not get rattled and they know it takes 60 minutes (or more) to get the job done in every game. They seem to have the mentality this year to not panic and know that the prize is a grind and have (so far) been able to maintain the mindset that 16 wins is the ultimate goal and to a man they seem to be able to grind it out game after game and they don't get too high or too low... 13 down... 3 to go.
