Post-Game Talk: Built. Different.

I've mentioned this quite a few times but the angst about the officiating, jmo, is missing the beauty of the Oilers play in these games. Even the crowd so involved in officiating and making calls that are there or not there and so much focus on officiating, instead of the absolute joy that is occurring here on the best team in the world to watch and with world discovering our club.

Oilersfans: "egad its Wes Macauley, everything is sure to be shit"

Its just the nonstop negativity about officiating, everygame, I can see that during regular season but right now enjoy the spectacle, enjoy finding the holy grail.
totally agree, i like to count the ones we get away with instead of focusing on the ones they get away with. every game there is 5-10 we probably could be called for but arent.

How weird is it that this wasn't even shown? They show McD's parents every game they attend. Didn't even know Leons parents were there. Is he a footnote?

This is Leon with another monster game scoring half our goals. Telecast didn't mention once, either, that it was his 49th and 50th career playoff goals. For Modern players only Mackinnon is slightly ahead at 53 goals.
Draisaitl is healthy this year, and almost has as many points right now as he had in the entire 7-game SCF last year.

The horse (man's original GPS, I guess) is almost close enough to smell the barn.

I wish there was some discretion for the penalty on a failed challenge especially in the playoffs. I understand why the penalty is there. But on really debatable calls and with how inconsistent the league is, it’s pretty sh*tty. Has the ability to change the game too much.

Not really complaining because it helped us in the Kings series. Didn’t help us tonight. But I think its makes the league look like a clown show.

TBH i'm so sick of this. We can only have 1 challenge and we need to be penalized if it's wrong because they don't want to slow the game down with "unnecessary stoppages" yet they waste 5 mins of a game by screwing around with all the face-offs....
watching the florida/carolina series florida was getting kicked out of just as many faceoffs as we were vs dallas. clearly they are both cheating the draws so just let them. stop wasting time

I didn’t mind the officials but that Bennet review was a clown show.

His “accidentally falling into the goalie” antics gave a goalie a concussion against the leafs… then he tried to do the exact same thing the next series.

Then HE STILL gets the call when he clearly fell on skinner on purpose. It’s beyond ridiculous.
It is unreal they allowed that goal what a joke that was

Bang. Again if you're not cheating here or there its not trying hard enough. This is the game of hockey. Its not choirboys out there. You're gonna see stinky elbows, slashes, physical plays. Hey, we loved plays Kane flying in to protect Leon. Sometimes thats a third man in call.

In anycase focus on the beauty of this hockey. Not who's getting the calls. This is the absolute best hockey you're ever going to see. have enjoyment of it instead of a crowd blasting officials every other minute. Just seems to be an anger about it.
I’m fine with violent playoff hockey… I’m fine with missed calls. Like I said I was fine with the officials.

However when you REVIEW a goal and it’s clear they in your words “cheated” then it’s a different story.

I also don’t buy Perry gets away with that.

Did you wish this in first round when LA were getting the penalty. C'mon. Thats onesided.

The whole point is if some were more debatable than others we wouldn't have all these 5 minute reviews and coaches challenges and stuff.

I think if we're going to go back then a goal that occurs on the ice is a goal. People lose sight of that a major change has taken place, quantum. Now when a team scores a big goal (any team) you kind of have to wait to get the official review and theres been painful goals taken back that probably shouldn't be.

I'm not sure we're better off now then before goal reviews even took place. I mean for obvious things like kicking or throwing puck in it makes sense. Or to determine conclusively that a puck did cross the line.

I don't even know why they have coaches challenges especially in the cup finals where the situation room should be reviewing every goal anyway. It's not like a goal is scored and then they drop the puck 10 seconds later. They have plenty of time to call down to the officials and tell them to delay the puck drop if they see something

The trouble is plays can be complex involving many things. Its not debatable there was a push. its not debatable the player fell into Skinner. The part thats more subjective is whether Bennett fell too much. At some level thats the determination. Its not a 100% clear one. Its about surmising whether a player play acted the stumble or really stumbled.

I do feel it was a 50/50 or at least that it was going to be goal stands or a chance of that. Even if its 60/40 in favor of callback I don't make that challenge. I don't defer to the probability in this I defer to hockey being a momentum game and so if a team scores don't give them an immediate chance at another. Don't compound it.

LA made a mistake with their challenge and the Oilers did too. The difference is this club was good enough to bail out the error.

Another odd thing in the commentary is people say they don't trust the officiating to get the call right and yet they support the coaching challenge in purview of that. I can't reconcile the views on that. There was a considerable chance the Oil wouldn't be getting this call.

Corey Perry? How many times did this board complain about one of his goals when he wasn't an Oiler.

It's a joke. It's the linemen getting their moment of power in the game. They need to relax a bit.
I'm surprised there isn't more talk about it, but most people are too numb

Im hesitant to complain about bennett doing that because I KNOW corey perry is going to get us a goal this series doing the exact same thing
I'm trying my best not to comment about reffing anymore because of this.

We're not "victims" in this shit anymore.

In years past, refs putting whistles away benefit only ONE of the two teams (not us).
f*** that.

This year when the refs decide to swallow their whistles, the other team is gonna hurt,.

Idk I think it's pretty clear. After the skate contact Bennett makes several backwards C motions without falling at all, then right when he gets to the blue paint suddenly he's turning to make sure he can take out Skinner.

Plus, the rule specifies that you have to both be fouled (read - the refs should have called a penalty) AND make reasonable attempts to avoid the goaltender. Meanwhile you have Bennett spinning the opposite direction that the momentum from the skate clip would have him fall in a manner that ensures he hits Skinner. Even if he didn't purposely take Skinner out (which let's be real - we're talking about the guy that's managed to elbow 3 different Goaltenders in the head already this post season...), he sure as shit didn't make "reasonable effort" to avoid contact.

Idk - maybe I'm in homer mode - but I think that should be waived off 10/10.

FLA for whatever reason(nepotism) get more leniency than every other team in the league

Boston, Tampa, and the Leafs all were vocal about their BS over the last 2 years, it achieved nothing.

The last time anyone on the Oilers called out the officiating it got worse to the extent that US and Canadian media were pointing out how ridiculous it was McDavid hadn't drawn a single penalty over 2 straight playoff series.

So head down and get on with it is absolute the right thing for the Oilers to do, they can deal with the refs behind close doors so they're not being 'embarrassed'
It’s not leniency. The Panthers have figured out the league is too chicken shit to call penalties and usually even them up- so why not take 30 penalties knowing the league will only call maybe 3- and that’s if the other team gets 3 penalties also. Gary Bettman is a f***ing moron who refuses to listen to his employees (the players) and his customers (the fans) because he always needs to be right

Yeah. I mean lets be honest. We cornered the market on Kane, Perry, and even Walman has some rep. We already have Nurse who has been two handing people around the crease or slashing Hintz and the board saying "he's faking it" Yeah, he faked a broken foot. Thats where the compass here has gone a bit off. People could look back and see we're maybe being homers on some of these interpretations.

We love when Walman skates right into the guy that got the OT penalty and mocks him. In another game thats unsportsmanlike.

We love when Kane flies in and sends some loser flying like a bowling pin because he touched Drai. In other instances thats a third man in.

man we run interference like crazy. We practice doing it on PP and 4 on 4. Does anybody see that? no. Is it being called? no.

let em play.

If we can make adjustments/ do a better job getting the puck out of our zone we are going to roll these guys.

All their sustained pressure came from us struggling to exist the zone/ turning it over. Dallas, La, VGK were much more dangerous on the rush with their speed.

Saw this. Bouch takes some heat here but we're watching an absolute elite gamer who's added playoff PK work to his resume.

I think it's down to just one irrational Bouchard critic on these forums at this point  He's been dominant, easily the best defenseman in the playoffs this year, and probably deserving of Con Smyth consideration

TO gets flak, but all the defensive cores of Florida's opponents on the way to the cup finals wilted under the Panther's forecheck, most of them lacked that dominant top pairing D in their prime that Bouchard is bringing to the game for the Oilers right now.
