Buffalo vs Toronto Rivalry

Are you Sabre fans looking forward to the start of the Buffalo vs Toronto rivalry??? As a Leaf fan I can't wait. Two really promising young teams located only a couple hours apart. Two brothers playing against each other. Eichel vs Matthews fighting for best American born player. The future playoff matches should be a lot of fun. There's nothing better than having a rivalry with a team with fans and players that you fully respect. I'm so excited for the next several years. Go Leafs Go! and Go Sabres Go!
 
I figured Toronto looked at Habs, Sens & Wings as primary rivals and Sabres were 4th at best on their list. Tampa & Florida are paired off, Bruins Habs have their thing, Buffalo needs an actual rival. :(

Buffalo needs to make the playoffs on a consistent basis in order to have a rival. Rivals are hardly ever made in the regular season.
 
As a Leafs fan I want a Sabres rivalry. With the teams being so close geographically and all the potential young stars on both teams it would be epic. The Sens, Habs and Bruins are teams on the decline or without direction therefore will soon become irrelevant. The Sabres on the other hand look poised for greatness and that's what you want in a rival.

You guys are right behind us, Matthews is an absolute stud, Nylander, Marner, Reilly etc. I hope both rebuilds goto plan, cuz if both teams peak it will be around the same time.

Wish you guys luck, besides when playing the Sabres.

Well, sometimes they are created by pure geography (like the three NY/NJ teams). LA/Anaheim were rivals from the moment the Ducks franchise was awarded.

Buffalo/Toronto has a few disadvantages. Not being in the same conference for so long means they didn't play regularly to build a history to fall back on in lean times, only 1 meaningful playoff series (which was intense), and mostly not being good at the same time (or at all).
 
Yea, Between the whole Babcock thing, Matthews vs Eichel, Nylander vs Nylander, and all the other good young talent coming from both teams deciding to do a scorched earth rebuild within a couple years of each other (you guys copied us, but that's ok... lol j/k)... It definitely has the potential to be a great rivalry for years to come. Hopefully it reaches the levels we are all hoping for.

That's when we need the most luck though...we usually suck in Buffalo, it has been a guaranteed win for you guys no matter what roster either team has.
 
Does anyone not remember Tie Domi, Mats, Wendell? We've had a great rivalry in the past, we've both just sucked the last decade so it hasn't mattered. Insert Peters golf swing.

I remember a sort of 3 way rivalry and lots of great playoff series between the Sabres-Leafs and Flyers for about a 5 year period. Each year 2 out of those 3 teams played each other in the post season it seemed.
 
I have tickets to see the Leafs vs Sabres this season and I'm pumped. And don't worry they're for when they play in Toronto. ;)
 
The leafs fans pay $300 a ticket to come watch their team lose in our arena 4 times a year. Can't hate them, gotta love them.

I agree completely. There's a lot of symmetry between Buffalo and Toronto right now, and if both teams can simultaneously increase their competitiveness in the league and begin to rival each other in the post season it would be very mutually beneficial to both teams in terms of marketing, coverage, recruitment, etc... plus the fun factor!
 
As a Leafs fan I am also excited to really see this rivalry take root. I think the Sabres have done a solid job on their rebuild with a nice blend of good drafting, trades and signings. There is a nice veteran mix with their great young talent.

As mentioned above it is amazing how the young talent on both teams lines up to fuel this growing rivalry with Matthews-Eichel, Nylander-Nylander, Marner-Reinhart and Rielly-Risto. I think all 8 of these guys are going to be studs in the league. Both teams are also managed well, which will hopefully sustain the future success of teams over a long period.

Although opposing fanbases often ruffle each others feathers, I can definitely appreciate the future young stars in Eichel, Reinhart, Nylander and Risto that you guys are developing. Can't wait to see our teams faceoff live Nov. 3rd.

the Leafs will have to get better before it will be a true rivalry. these little fragile prospects like the highly overrated Mitch Marner will break down when faced w the NHL game.

Mike Babcock and his 24/7 bitter beer face used Terry Pegula and the Sabres (and **** on the Red Wings, too) - showed poor integrity when he LIED to them and played them for fools - to get $paid$ in Toronto. They did not get Steven Stamkos OR Jimmy Vesey (although Radko did :laugh:) after all the hype, because they are not even as desirable a hockey destination as Buffalo. I have no respect for him and believe Dan Bylsma will get the last laugh. I wish nothing but bad things on the Toronto Maple Leafs. :baghead: May they stay mired in mediocrity for all of time! :baghead::popcorn:
