Fair enough. I don't think it makes any sense to trade Kesselring + Crouse for Byram for Utah. Again, Utah's top 4 is Sergachev and Durzi who are both PMD who are sometimes bad sometimes okay at defense. Kesselring is another one of those types also in the roster who is currently playing top 4 sometimes and probably should be, but isn't the best partner for Sergachev or Durzi. Utah would acquire Byram only to play him on either the first pairing with Sergachev, which likely leads to a pretty bad defensive unit, or on the 3rd pair. And Utah would have to re-sign to a long term deal after this season to continue to do so? It makes no sense.Well it could be Byram+ for Kesselring + Crouse for example. Byram is more like a #2D now, he has been playing in the first pair almost the whole season and has been playing well, he can move the puck, he can provide some defense, although it is not his strong point, he is still young and already experienced enough, he can also play RD. Obviously it makes no sense for us to trade him cheap or for example for a winger, since our main problems are RD and top 6 C. Kesselring fills this need, Crouse is the type of winger we need.
Not sure why Seattle would want Byram with Dunn and Montour in the top 4. But it's also unclear how they could find a good deal there.
Seattle would be more interested because they need to get younger and would be okay playing Byram on the 3rd pair until Dunn's contract is up or hoping that they can trade Dunn/Montour IF Byram looks good with Larsson/Evans/Dunn in the top 4. They also have a f*** ton of draft capital and assets to get a move done which is apparently what Buffalo would prefer.
