Anybody saying Ruff is the problem hasn't been paying attention. This core of players is rotten. No coach is going to save this team in its current state. Major roster changes need to happen.
I'm just trying to figure out who the core players are, other than Tuch, Thompson, and Dahlin. I would have thought that letting go of Skinner would have dramatically helped this team, but somehow they got worse. Was Okposo really the glue for this team?

Okposo was terrible and created a rift between the team and fans. If anything he created a culture of pure entitlement and no responsibilities.

Power and Cozens were supposed to anchor the second pair and second line respectively. Power has failed to play well in his own zone, and Cozens hasn't played well at all. Secondary pieces like Peterka, Quinn and Samuelsson have all regressed or stalled.

Also, letting Skinner go might have helped if they used the cap space that got freed up on something rather than sitting on it.

Ya, very weird one where I respect the dude, I can see why teammates love him- absolutely not the guy in Buffalo, tone deaf responses to fans all over while actually meaning well, not like Jack or some bullshit- but the dude you’re responding to has a point, one I haven’t really wanted to face- who’s the core?

Dahlin- Often hobbled, makes incredibly boneheaded mistakes still. Just little things, like getting his stick lifted for a turnover and goal against when you can see he’s trying to think 2 steps ahead.
Thompson- So want him to be the dude, he was for a bit, but then life hits and I just don’t think he’s a leader.
Tuch- Likes Buffalo, plays irresponsible hockey. I don’t say shit when it works, but I feel like this dude’s whole style just involves him constantly moving at 22 mph. If the puck comes with him, sweet, if not ah well, next shift!

I think losing Skinner for the reason they did- money- still hurts the dudes in the room. It was decorated as somethin else, but come on- they barely tried to replace him. Zucker has actually been fantastic, but I think it’s pretty clear this wasn’t some stylistic change, not when jettisoning Skinner means a spot for Peterka and Quinn.

So anywho- I mean, shit, ya. You wanna say Tuch, Thompson, and Dahlin are maybe the leaders, but one of these homies fought a dude in practice and the other two- they care, they work hard- they don’t seem willing to be the guy.

Maybe part of the problem is “the guy” needs to be honest, and honestly? f*** management, f*** coaching, especially f*** ownership- but a player can’t say that.

Maybe Dahlin can beat another one of his subordinates after attempting to break their knees, maybe that’ll boost morale.

Hopefully it fires them up as much as a speech from the owner....er wait.

But serious, I predict a well earned loss. The team has given up and just gave their worst performance of the streak against montreal after being told no help is coming and no trades are being made. They are demoralized and were just told management is not doing anything about it. I call leafs win by at least 3.

You called it bro.

League worst record in 2013-14 and 2014-15. League worst record in 2017-18. League worst record in 2020-21. Now flirting again with league worst record in 2024-25 forty percent into the season. It’s hard to fathom how that can happen in a league that’s designed to be completely cyclical in nature.

Get #1 in 2015 instead of #2 and they never look back IMO

We are in the awful position the Hawks under Old Man Wirtz and the Sens under U-Gene were where there was no hope until they assumed room temperature. This is as low as any pro franchise has ever been.

A lot of pressure playing Buffalo these days, you don't want to be the team that losses to them when they're on such a bad streak.

Thought it was going to be the Leafs with 2 games this week and their history but the Leafs managed to win both. They don't play Buffalo again until the second last game of the regular season so I don't think they'll be the team to end the streak...I hope.
