Proof that ownership and culture is the problem is that the GM wasn't fired the day after making excuses about Buffalo not being an FA destination. Winnipeg is literally right there, having made the playoffs in soon to be 7 of the last 8 seasons. 8 times since they arrived, having moved from Atlanta the last season the Sabres made the playoffs. It's difficult to not accidentally make the playoffs in so long.

I've thought a lot about the Sabres, our failed rebuilds, and the best path forward. After much reflection, I think the best path forward is to voluntarily fold the franchise.

You need an owner willing to pay for the basics an NHL team needs. Then you need to hire a new POHO who fires all the scouts, trainers, doctors, pa announcer, arena staff. Replace everyone. Literally change the entire org to one that does not collectively only know failure.

Make a few shake up trades. Move 2 core pieces around. Bring in some vets, make the age of the team middle of the pact not youngest.

I wonder if Buffalo is a logical landing spot for Ken Holland. I don’t think he is a great GM, but they need someone who experience with organizational structure and managing ownership.

League worst record in 2013-14 and 2014-15. League worst record in 2017-18. League worst record in 2020-21. Now flirting again with league worst record in 2024-25 forty percent into the season. It’s hard to fathom how that can happen in a league that’s designed to be completely cyclical in nature.

There's only one constant remaining since 2011. I'd look there for the answer.

I’ll maintain that there needs to be a clear message sent that things are going to be different. A cleaning of house. A couple shocking trades. Even if they lose the trades how much worse can it be? The important thing is a new beginning. The well is poisoned now. It sucks for Sabres fans because clearly a new owner is needed

I feel like we don’t need to be piling on the sabres. I honestly want to see them succeed as a leafs fan
It's been weird to see the various postings of 'lol Sabres' or 'I hope they lose forever'.

Unless you were also a team losing / fighting for draft position, the Buffalo Sabres haven't threatened your teams' interest in nearly a generation.

On the other side of that, what are the positive on-ice memories for the Sabres the last 14 years? That one 10 game win streak in a November? The time two years back when they made it to April without playoff elimination?

I used to be diehard, passionate, everything Sabres. I no longer watch or go to games. I barely post on hf. I'll still never cease to be amazed at how happy people can get from the misery of others.

Honestly as a leafs fan, I loved the rivalry we had when you had miller. I just feel like it’s better for the league when the sabres are good and I really hope they turn it around soon.

It seems not possible for a franchise that had an 18-game winless streak in 2020-21, and then fired the coach and GM and replaced all of the players, and then fired the next coach, too, to now be in the midst of a 12-game winless streak four years later.

And they had an 8-game losing streak 2 years ago.

How.
