They also only play 10 games in the entire month of October, with multiple three-day breaks, but have 8 games in 16 days in January, plus 9 in 17 in April.

The league's idiotic insistence on the sprint to the finish line setup pretty much guarantees sloppy play and more injuries heading into the playoffs.

They're having the Four Nations Tournament which will draw a lot more interest and eyeballs than regular season games.

Cool league where they make divisions matter more than ever before for playoff seeding purposes and you only play division rivals once more than every team in the other conference

Awesome arena. Our favorite in the NHL. Still miss the Joe though.

Make sure to get Buddy's pizza while you're there - classic Detroit style - and also see about also getting in an NTDP game. Plymouth is only about 30 minutes from downtown Detroit though I would NOT recommend staying in the city of Detroit.

I stay in the city of Detroit a lot, but I'm a rustbelt nerd. Dan Gilbert's Bedrock and a few others have improved downtown dramatically in the past decade. Ford's recent flip of Michigan Central Station is an amazing upset victory for historic preservation. Eastern Market is really nice. Buffalo, including the arena district, could learn a lot from Detroit's success.

I remember playing tournaments out at Compuware as a kid, would be cool to check it out again. But knowing me I'll probably end up at a techno show or walking around an abandoned building.

Compuware is the new USA Hockey Arena as you probably know. The Compuware program still plays out of the building.

The lower bowl at LCA is nice but the upper level is horrible. So you'd want to stick to the lower bowl.

We usually park at the MGM Casino for free and walk it. It's safe but when it's literally -10 degrees outside it's pretty brutal.

I get that things are getting better in Detroit but my wife tells me when we walk around downtown Buffalo that Buffalo is much farther ahead in their rebuild than Detroit. City-wise, anyway.
