Proposal: Buffalo: Peterka for Nemec, Byram for Rossi

There’s more seasons than just next year to plan for. Zeev and byram are extremely redundant long term. It’s a dumb argument. It doesn’t make any sense to use our best trade chip to acquire a player who, while an excellent player, doesn’t help with the most pressing need the team has: scoring forwards.

Wasn't arguing differently.
Just saying it's risky to count on Buium being a good PP QB this coming season.

Jiricek is blocked by default because of Faber, unless he surpasses him. And not that it would ever happen, but Faber is the only interesting option (to me) for Peterka.

Whereas if Minnesota had any interest in Byram+ for Faber (or Jiricek) swap, it would be a decent add from Buffalo (Quinn, Rosen, Helenius or Ostlund), and it’d vary depending on which dman the Sabres are getting back.

And yes, I know with you Faber AND Jiricek are absolutely non-starters in any hypothetical trade talks.
Jiricek is not blocked by anyone. He will be on the third pairing this year and gradually move into the 2nd pairing role as Spurgeon declines. Don't think anyone views Jiricek as a long term 1st pairing RHD.

Trading Rossi for Byram "blocks" Buium because the Wild would have Brodin-Middleton-Byram in that case. Buium is blocked from playing the 3rd pair.

Faber and Jiricek are seen as Minnesota's RHD for the next 10 years. No, like you said wild wouldn't trade them and wouldn't for a LHD they don't want or need either. With all due respect,

There’s no chance Peterka has equal value to Fabre. It’s not even close really tbh.

Well I was spitballing two different ideas there. One where Peterka is the the return to the Wild, the other would be Byram.

The two teams aren’t good trading partners. For the exact same reasons from both sides.

If Byram or Peterka were locked up long-term on a bargain contract, I’d trade Brodin + Rossi for them.

Brodin is too valuable of a defenseman at $6M/year for the next 3 seasons.

Bryam can play very capable on the right side so I don't buy the blocking argument.

As for Jireck, I was extremely high on him as a prospect but he seems really lost right now.

I hope he finds his way again.

Then he’s blocking Jiricek and playing on his offhand. Not something Minnesota is interested in.

Jiricek was really solid in his brief stint with Minnesota.

Wild are stacked on both the right side and left side. since when did Byram play the right side? either way wild don't need him

I would do Brodin for Byram 1 for 1 but that is the only deal I would do for Byram.

A Rossi trade would need to bring back a top six forward, or a prospect that's very close to being a top six forward.

I'd feel much better about Buium running the power play than Byram and his... *checks notes* ...10 career power play points.
Byram had Dahlin and Makar as top PP Dman on hus teams don't hes been blocked from the PP1 time.
For those curious how the Wild went from ranked #10 on the power play in 2023-24 to #20 in 2024-25, please take a look at the number of games that Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek missed this past season.
The other players can't do much on the PP?
Keep going:

D2 seasons by top 15 defencemen in the past 10 years:

  • Reinbacher not in NHL
  • Simashev not in NHL
  • Willander not in NHL
  • Nemec 19 NHL points
  • Jiricek 10 NHL points
  • Korchinski 15 NHL points
  • Mintyukov 28 NHL points
  • Mateychuk not in NHL
  • Power 35 NHL points
  • Hughes 2 NHL points
  • Edvinsson 2 NHL points
  • Clarke 2 NHL points
  • Sanderson not in NHL
  • Drysdale 32 NHL points
  • Byram 2 NHL points
  • Seider not in NHL
  • Broberg not in NHL
  • Soderstrom 2 NHL points
  • York 0 NHL points
  • Dahlin 40 NHL points
  • Hughes 53 NHL points
  • Boqvist 13 NHL points
  • Bouchard not in NHL
  • Dobson 8 NHL points
  • Heiskanen 33 NHL points
  • Makar not in NHL
  • Foote not in NHL
  • Brannstrom 0 points
  • Juolevi not in NHL
  • Sergachev 40 points
  • Bean not in NHL
  • McAvoy 32 NHL points
  • Hanifan 29 NHL points
  • Provorov 30 NHL points
  • Werenski 47 NHL points
  • Zboril not in NHL

Out of 36 players, 4 guys have pulled it off. Maybe your guy will be the 5th. Just in case, don't go adding any other good defencemen.
Tyler Myers got ROY as a 19 yr old in 09/10

I wouldnt. Byram is 10 yrs younger. P

Not interested in Rossi

Eriksson Ek is the most irreplaceable guy on the power play. Without him, we have nobody that is good at playing the net front. I’m not sure how Byram “fixes” that.

Even despite Kap and Ek being 30+games each, they had a better power play than the Sabres.

That's very kind of you. I'm sure BUFF would be out of this world to get older and worst.
