Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

He's a 60 point center at 23 he still has room to grow.

Two common things fans think that history doesn't necessarily support:
1) thinking that if a player hasn't busted out in his 3rd season he's not going to.
2) thinking that if a player has busted out in his 3rd season he's still got another level

Can someone please summarize the following:

1. What is Peterka's likely new contract going to look like.
2. According to this thread, what has been the best offer for Peterka.

To my knowledge there has been no insider reporting on what he is asking or what the Sabres are offering in terms of contract.

The only insider report about a trade offer is Seravalli saying the Hawks floated 3rd overall and the Sabres didn't bite.

This thread is full of the usual home team fans asking for the moon and stars and the bidders offering sand and glass.

There has been no confirmation or denial that Peterka has asked for a trade, or that Sabres want to/are willing to trade him, or that contract offers have been discussed, or that any kind of talks have progressed to the point of being serious.

The only thing we know for sure is that someone is feeding Frank info ("I don't believe Peterka will be a Sabre this fall") designed to create a buzz around JJ. And Elliot initially reporting the Sabres don't want to trade him, then later saying they are listening.

It's been the definition of float a rumour, create a vacuum and let the speculation fill it.

Only thing to add, a small piece to the puzzle. During a pre-draft presser Today 6/24, GM Kev Adams was asked if they plan on buying out Samuelsson, which he directly answered NO, it has never been discussed. When asked if JJP aske for a trade, it wouldn't confirm or deny.

I remember when Dylan Cozens was almost a 1C

If the GM doesn't confirm or deny that's a yes.

Andrew Peters has said Peterka has not requested a trade, FWIW. He’s not the most plugged-in guy, but I’d certainly take his word over Seravelli’s when it comes to Sabres players.

Long contract around $8.5M
2'3 yr br around $6M

Something equivalent to OS comp of 2 1sts+2+3 is the likely ask price.

Futures or current nhl players depends on other trades made or FA signings.

If they were to trade #9 for a roster player (say RD) then trade byram for a F, they probably trade Peterka for ELCs/ future prospects/ picks because of cap space

Was kind of strange that Adams wouldn't say whether or not JJP asked for a trade. Surely he must've known that question would've come up at the presser? How can he not have a better answer, even it's evasive?

Maybe it has something to do with his weird follow-up: "maybe I can get into it more after the draft."

As in wheels already in motion, no point muddying the waters prematurely, I'll explain when it's done.

Well, a lot has been said. Some nice return value has been proposed, mostly involving picks. Sabres fans, and the team, want a player that can play now. Ideally they would want a young, top 4, RHD, or a young, top 6 C.

Rossi was brought up earlier on, with rabid fans from both sides hating it, but others shrugging their shoulders and saying it is fair, if not exactly what they want. Can't think of a young RHD that was offered, and was acceptable to both sides.

I'm a Wild fan, and would rather keep Rossi, mainly because MN doesn't have a realistic replacement for him, and always seem to be short on top 6 C's. I think it's madness to move on from a young one. I don't care if he's 5'2". Nothing against JJP, who obviously has talent.

I haven't heard Ducks or Kraken fans rushing to offer up McTavish, Beniers, or Wright.

I think I've seen Wilander+ offered up, but Sabres fans are not thrilled about trading for a NCAA player + a pick, while VAN fans would prefer a C. Garland + was also offered.

Leafs fans seem okay with a Carlo/McCann trade if they can find a FA replacement for Carlo (easier said than done, I know).

I can see it for both teams, though I can also see it being picked apart for both teams. JJP would be a young, cost controlled top 6 option to replace Marner, and the money difference between him and Marner would be enough to get a decent D replacement, if they even exist anymore.

Sabres would get some veteran depth, but I would question whether McCann is a need with McLeod around, and Carlo has his detractors. Basically, it trades youth with top tier'ish talent for aging mediocrity. I would think that a better trade would be to trade would be to move one of the Toronto pieces for one of BUF's near NHL ready prospects like Helenius. Toronto doesn't have, and needs those pieces, while Bud has a few of them, and can afford to miss one.

IMO Peterka isn't worth more than 7 right now. I tell him 7x5 is your deal or you sign 2-3 years at 5.5 to make yourself easier to be traded/bet on yourself.

Peterka for Rossi/Cirelli seems like good fits for Buffalo. Saw Dobson but he was ASS this year so ehh. Rumor of 3rd overall probably is the most "value" offer.

I don't think that Cirelli is available, while I am pretty sure Rossi is, for the right price. It's been rumored by the Wild beat writer that JJP would be acceptable to MN but Rossi isn't to Adams. No rumors at all about Cirelli and TBL.

Why not give him the fill 8 years?
