Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

4 years and yes, hence why there's a second attached and I said "not far off" implying more would need to be included by Ottawa
Bigger difference because peterkacan br signed for 7+ and not walk.
I’d offer a 1st, 2nd and 3rd and if Buffalo says no I’d put a 9.3M 1 year deal in front of JJP.
As I've dsid...a 1-2-3 OS Buffalo might not match. Itdeprnfd on the team/ term

A more than 5 yr 9+ likely means higher comp

As I've said. If sgned byram and peterka then Quinn is s broberg style 2nd comp vulnerable. If they trade Byram or power for less cap coming back opening up sooner then less likely a oroblem

That's ignoring the alleged "fact" that JJP wants to walk and Drake is signed for a bargain and also doesn't wanna run from the team that drafted him right after his ELC. Given that Adams thought Norris was more valuable than Cozens, I'd say Drake+Buf 2nd +small add is pretty realistic

I think Norris is more valuable than Cozens too. Also, Peterka’s dissatisfaction is unconfirmed at this point.

I said alleged and used the quotations for a reason. Norris really impressed you in his 3 whole healthy games did he? The most important ability is availability, so it's Cozens all day long and I love Norris

I'm not here to say Cozens is some superstar player you build a team around, but Norris may in fact have close to negative value.

The uncertainty of having a player like that on your roster is too crippling with his cap hit.

Cozens has been a negative on the ice for a while now. I have nothing against him, but he has the hockey IQ of a brick, and I guarantee you my opinion is not a solitary one.

However, we’re off on a bit of a tangent here.

Ya, he's miscast as a centre, just like Norris in some ways, who don't kid yourself, has en even worse IQ, despite his numerous strengths, mostly his skating, shot and faceoffs. 16 points in 21 games while trailing only Brady in hits is far from a negative, did you even watch him as a Sen? Norris will tell you himself (I've heard him making fun of himself in practices), he can't pass his way out of a wet paper bag and has the vision of 90 year old with cataracts. Cozens will still put up more numbers on an annual basis for less money while also being bigger, younger and having higher value league wide, but ya, in a vacuum, Josh will "wow" you with his shot alone

If we don't spend to the cap, it doesn't matter. We don't spend to the cap. At this point, give me a player with at least half a brain that I can cheer for 35-40 games instead of a low IQ forward who disappeared for 2 seasons.

I think Cozens will turn it around in Ottawa, but we are all painfully aware that he wasn't going to do it here.

Historically, Norris is above average defensively, and Cozens is below average. Yeah, they are both deeply flawed players. I have no idea if Josh Norris will still have 2 shoulders at the end of the season, or if Dylan Cozens can fix his hockey IQ or maintain any confidence in himself. Both need medical help, albeit a psych intervention for Cozens.

A low IQ fwd who disappeared for 2 seasons describes Josh in a much more literal way tbf. Norris does not have the IQ Sabres fans seem to think, but you guys only watched him for 3 games, which most people outside Buffalo recognize is symptomatic of what is by FAR his biggest issue. Anyway, I'm done straying from the thread topic, my apologies to the mods, lol

Norris on the bench was better for the Sabres than Cozens on the ice. He could’ve played 0 games and it would’ve represented an improvement for us.

And did you watch him in Ottawa or even glance at his stats? Norris in Buffalo was the exact same Norris I wanted gone from Ottawa, 3g played, nuff said

I'm sure Peterka wants more money than Buffalo wants to pay him but that's probably pretty standard right now for RFAs that have shown good progress. Beyond that why would things have gone sideways with him?

I mean would it really surprise you?

He's on a team that's missed the playoffs for 14 straight years, objectively they are a tire fire.

The culture around the team must be be HORRENDOUS

you're literally the only one saying that about Norris and have been going back and forth with Sabres fan(s) for hours/days....you'll excuse me for not just suddenly taking your word on Norris lol.

I'm definitely not and why do you think his first assist totals are so insanely low relative to his overall production? Go check natural stat trick, besides, he says it about himself and again, you've watched him for 3 games, vs the 230+ I've watched him for. Let him take the faceoff then play the wing for the rest of his shift, he's a pure shooter with no setup ability, you'll see for yourself in time

Its cute you think I watched those games lol. I'm a Sabres fan, by that point in the year I was googling what different clouds look like...

Norris is a very good 200 foot centre whose shoulder seems fine. He was a very good add for Buffalo. Cozens has offensive instincts and needs proper coaching which he will get in Ottawa. Good trade for both teams. Now back to JJP …….

He's still a young player and if it was just a team winning/losing sort of thing it would be premature to me. He's got 2 NHL seasons at this point? It would be unusual for someone that young to pull the competitive team card. If there were reports he did not get along with the coaching staff or believed he was not being put in position to succeed on the ice I would believe that but I am unaware of any such story. I guess we will see. Most guys that are disgruntled suddenly become gruntled when they get their money.

What about a 3way trade?

To Buffalo
Jason Robertson

To Ottawa
JJ Peterka

To Dallas
Fabian Zetterland
1st (Ottawas)
3rd in 2026 (one of the 3 Ottawa owns)

Buffalo gets a superstar in JR, Dallas gets a cheaper player and gets restocked with some picks.

Peterka doesn't bring back Robertson on his own and Ottawa is getting off easy.
