Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

some of the cirelli takes in here are bewildering, Tampa is almost certainly not trading him and I would be willing to bet that if he was offered to Buffalo straight up as a one for one for Peterka the deal would be done in a heartbeat

unbelievably useful player coming off of a career season and most of the underlying numbers highlight that he's not just on a shooting heater - he's actually generating quality chances consistently despite getting some of the toughest matchups in the league
In a vacuum without salary cap sure

But salary cap exists and sacrifices need to be made

Out of all of the mess ups from the FO, not signing Hagel was my biggest annoyance. He had a scrappiness to him that felt like it would work out to at least make him a bottom six guy. To see him explode like he has? Really annoying
I bet Botts didn't have that on his resume when he applied in Seattle.

Not sure who to hold accountable in Buffalo the last 10 years. from an outsiders view, it looks like they get 2/3rds through the jig saw puzzle and then the dogs tail wipes it off the table and they have to restart or whatever re- verb you’d like to use.

Eichel
Reinhart
Hagel
Cozens
Ullmark
Peterka
Byrum

Assuming the last 2 come to fruition (obviously nothing is certain), that's just an absurd amount of talent to hemorrhage in a short period of time.
RoR
Evander Kane
Montour
McCabe

Not to de-rail, but I was at Niagara in April after going to Buffalo/Toronto games.

It really is incredible how stark the difference is. I hadn't been there since I was 12, so didn't remember. Canadian side is bustling. American side is ghetto as f***.

Granted, it's because we have the better falls!
The better Falls are in the USA... which is why Canada has the better view from the other side.

The ask was 4x 1sts for Eichel.

He was traded for 3x 1sts and a 2nd.
Exactly it’s silly to try to spin it any other way - essentially that trade was a true 1st line forward plus a top prospect at the time and a 1 and 2

It had turned into probably that Sabres too prospect not in the nhl ( ostlund) + a true 1st line fwd that is their 3rd best player and greenway + krebs. Very sold return for a trade we were never going to “ win”

I mean Tuch is worth much more than a 1st even now so it’s actually turned out to be more than the ask!
