Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

If I was Allvin I'd do everything I can to switch Mancini ( who is a very good prospect currently killing it)for Willander. Add a 1st, 2nd if that's what it takes.

Ive been saying since the under 18's that he's special after learning he had been a Dman for less than three years at that point and how massive a jump from the beginning of his draft year to the end.

I like JJ a lot, always have but very few wingers hold the value of a top pairing RHD.
I mean it's a given with his attributes and skill-set he's gonna be an elite defender, throw in the fact that due to his delayed start and role he played in Boston he hasn't even scratched the surface of what his offensive potential could be.

Not saying it's gonna happen but imagine if he becomes a guy that can put up 60+ points and that's his second best part of his game.
Maybe I'm wrong and if JJ was a Centre I'd be less concerned but man what a kick in the nuts that would be.

What do draft picks and more prospects do for Buffalo?

Who knows how much validity there is to this, or just Seravalli making things up for attention, or if it's a negotiating tactic using him as a mouthpiece for Peterka's agent.

But if true...this is why it sucks to suck, and where teams can get stuck on a treadmill with their rebuilds like Buffalo has seemed to be. Young promising players come up, establish themselves, and end up wanting out because it never seems to be gaining any traction. Which in turn, just makes it so much more difficult to ever actually gain any traction. Just spinning their wheels becoming a feeder system for other teams. Really frustrating...but that's the danger of falling into these sort of tank out rebuilds. It can be extremely difficult to ever get going again if it takes too long. Always bailing out a sinking ship just trying to stay above water...some guys are going to want to jump ship.
It’s not “extremely difficult” - Buffalo just needs to hire a front office and coaching staff that isn’t a complete joke, year after year. It actually wouldn’t be very hard to get the team to the playoffs for a close-to-average GM.

If Adams trades Peterka he should get the return of the highest value regardless of whether that mean futures instead of roster players. He should be smart enough to then use those futures to acquire the roster players his club needs. And the quality should be better than settling for a trade in the first place because he wanted only roster players.

Sure if teams want to blow them out of the water with a futures package.. go for it. You understand what it would take for a futures package to outrank proven roster players that can come in immediately and help now?

Why trade for futures when you already have more than enough futures to bring in roster players.

WTH .. it isn’t even June. What's the hold up with Knies, Rossi? Dostal, McTavish.

A lot of these players are going to take their time and let the field play out for negotiations.
So waiting until July 1, when they can gage their value with offer sheets?
If Peterka is worth 56-64 mil, then Adams needs to get it done. What’s he accomplishing by waiting?

What is the consequence for waiting? .. A team offers him 8 million a year and he signs it? So Adams says thank you very much for doing my work for me and matches it.

The only bad thing that can happen is Peterka says he wants to be traded and Adams continues with his dumbassery with his "We want players who want to be here" policy and gives up his leverage and trades Peterka for some god awful return. Which i concede is possible

July 1st is like 5 weeks away... where is this assumption he is "waiting". There is nothing out of the ordinary going on right now.
The assumption is the basis of this thread, isn’t it? It’s Saravelli; not just some HF poster who is suggesting this situation is more than just negotiation.

Maybe a club offers 9x5? The Sabres match?

Its too bad for Sabres fans that the Bills drafted Josh Allen and the sporting world is suddenly tricked to believe that the Pegulas are competent.
Both grenades were already taken by the time Bills had to pick. They had to choose between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. It's not like they could've made a wrong pick with that one lol.

Not correct - Josh Rosen was the consensus pick by Bills media and fandom. Their GM took Allen, and immediately had to defend himself against the mob.

Jackson wasn't really a consideration after the Bills traded up to 7th - maybe if they stayed at 22, but not 7

Can someone explain to me why "Buffalo may not have a choice?"

Peterka is 4 years away from RFA. He has no arbitration rights. The Sabres have plenty of cap...?

The only way I can see that happening is he plans to hold out and simply refuse to sign, ever. Was that threatened?

Let’s be honest, because this is Seravelli talking out of his ass, as he always does. The fact that he’s saying it and absolutely no one else is probably tells you all you need to know about the rumor’s veracity.

Am i wrong in assuming that there is pressure on Adams from above to pinch pennies?

Yeah.. but the entire basis is wrong. Buffalo has ALL the choices. And there really isn't any pressure on them. I don't get it... Yes teams may be calling on him... yes Adams could even be calling on other teams about him .. but there is NO crisis. The fact he isn't signed right now is no crisis. Talk to me when he is holding out in training camp.

When 13 years of losing doesn't make you spend to the cap, you are pinching pennies in my book.

He's cheap with front office and coaching staff too...will only very rarely fire someone before their contract is up. Granted, he'll pretty much have to spend to the cap very soon, but probably only for a year or two, before the cap again goes higher than he's willing to spend.

He's also just not a very competitive person, the owner.
