Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

As an old timer who doesn’t get these trade threads could I get clarification? When a poster responds with “I would” do they mean anything more than simply what they, as a fan, would do? Or is there some added meaning, like I hope my club would do this? Or, I think my club would do this?

So he’s wrong about one thing and that makes him wrong about everything? There’s not one person on this earth that hasn’t been wrong once.

You think it's one thing?

Look there is no doubt Servelli is connected... but he is in a business.. they have to make smoke even when there is no fire.

I doubt talks with Peterka have even gotten serious yet. These teams haven't even had their meetings yet that map out the direction the team wants to go next season.

The Sabres have control over Peterka for the next 4 years... there is no panic about Peterka... Buffalo certainly has a choice.

He's been wrong about A LOT

Last off season he said Necas would be traded before game 1 of the finals, he wasn't although he was eventually traded but nowhere NEAR when Frank said he would be.

After signing his contract, Frank said Nick Robertson would still be traded he wasn't.

Last off season he said Mitch Marner was going to be traded he wasn't.

You already brought up the Gibson thing

There is a reason my first line is "Take it for what It's worth because it's Frank."

i've long liked spence and danault as blue jackets targets, but if mikey anderson is available he'd be by far my top target. i assume we'd have to throw in some picks, but we have surplus capital there.
I highly doubt Anderson is available. Only reason I brought him up is if Buffalo wanted him in a deal for Byram and Peterka together as they asked for a partner for Dahlin. I think Spence for Sillinger would work well. I don't think Danault would waive his modified NMC for Columbus. If he was willing what would the package be if it was Spence and Danault for Sillinger + ?

Anderson from the Habs?
No. Mikey Anderson from LA.

Generally speaking, "I would" translates loosely into "I would be OK/happy if my team made this deal". Some pretty literally mean it as "If I were GM, I would do this deal".

There are very, very few deals that are discussed in these threads that actually occur.

Referencing this thread: Would I be OK with a deal around JJ Peterka for some of the things discussed in this thread? I would. Do I think that Adams is actually going to trade JJP? Nope......he's more than likely getting signed to a long-term deal.

I don't think the Sabres would do draft picks but outside of Sid, I don't know if there's an off-limits roster player.

Like a package around Rakell would be solid for Buffalo given that Rakell will provide similar offensive output likely at a lower cost allowing them to bolster other depth positions.

Clarifier: I said PACKAGE around Rakell. NOT Rakell 1:1. I feel on the main boards it's uber important to reinforce that for weak readers.

What do muscles have to do with reading? Silly.

yeah obviously this would be a very different deal but mikey anderson is the type of player i'd give up voronkov+ to get. he fits our needs extremely well.

not exactly sure what the plus would be there but i assume it'd be workable for columbus. not sure if LAK wants picks (or what the cost would be there) or would prefer the extra part of that to be a roster player (chinakhov) or prospect (svozil?). but the basic framework is doable.

A Canes/Sabres swap makes sense for Peterka. The Canes have a bunch of young talent on ELCs but have a bit of a surplus at right wing and a shortness at left wing. The Sabres seem to have a king's ransom of left-shot wingers but aren't as deep on the right, so Blake for Peterka, as a base package, would be an interesting idea for both teams.

If "interesting" has no connection or resemblance to "interested in making", or 'both teams" means "the Canes", yeah, for sure.

considering the rangers/sabres were close enough to a peterka deal that renaud lavoie was reporting on it i’d bet a lot of money that he ends up a ranger

I would suspect that if talks were close then almost certainly Schneider or Miller were going the other way.

Rangers fans are adamant Drury will not move Cuylle, which be the other piece that fits as a Sabres target.

Have to be Seider ++. Doubt the Sabres want another left shot D with Power and Dahlin holding down the top two spots.

I don't hate something around Zub for Peterka.

Jensen just had surgery. It would need to be part of a bigger picture deal for Ottawa (here they get a RD some other way)

Just an example (not suggesting it's realistic):
Zub for JJP
Sens sign UFA Fabbro to 'replace' Zub

Otherwise they are thinner than thin at RD.

I'd take rakell with 26 1st unprotected back from Pittsburgh along with a prospect

Why would they move their pick next year, let alone move it unprotected? They have a 1st this year they could move that should be high enough for Buffalo to consider, but doesn't come with the risk of moving an unprotected pick in a rebuild, which no team would do.
