Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

We’ve heard that about literally 8 players on the Wild. Brodin, Faber, Spurgeon, JEE, Kaprizov, Foligno, Hartmann, and Boldy are all completely untouchable in any trade.
That’s because one guy likes to come into every thread involving Minnesota and scream that the Wild are never going to trade whatever player is being discussed. Just ignore him.

The actual untouchables are Kaprizov (unless contract negotiations go south), Boldy and Faber. That’s it. Brodin, Spurgeon, Eriksson Ek, Foligno, and Hartman are certainly not untouchable. Eriksson Ek would be pricy and most of those guys have some form of trade protection.

So I see you have the pride logo Sabres and I know the Penguins and Sabres have a pride game every year. How do you feel about Eric Staal joining the organization while he is one of the players that began the not wearing pride jerseys?

Also you do not think we can't offer Rust / Rakell + for Peterka?

Like maybe our first and a prospect?
Same as I felt with Reimer joining the org. Ignorant people behind something to remain ignorant. Unfortunately there are a ton and they will be employed, just hope he can keep it in his head.

You can offer it, it's just not enticing and I don't like JJ.

Rust - looks washed
Rakell - i would be fine adding but there isn't enough of a plus anywhere else to balance it.

No real interest in picks or prospects as we have enough of both and wouldn't want to have to try and make another trade after trading arguably our top trade piece.

Sabres really need to be adding to their center spine, not moving holes. Eriksson Ek would be a great add, but not at the cost of two of our top 6. I'd try to counter with Peterka + Quinn + a pick, but I doubt Minny would take it
If that’s the case, there is no deal to be made with Buffalo concerning Eriksson Ek. Rossi for Peterka is probably the closest thing we can do.

What specifically is Buffalo looking for, younger players with upside , or more established players?

What positions exactly either?

Not a lot in the area that is appealing for young 20 something world class athletes. It is a beautiful area to live in with great proximity to Toronto, Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, etc, and we have no shortage of players who retire in the area to raise their families, but it is a bore for a lot of players.

When you combine that with the lack of hockey success (ie the soul crushing weight of hopelessness), it makes it a hard sell.
Until he signs in Winnipeg and blows that argument away.

I think the issues that cause players to avoid Buffalo are entirely organizational and not because it’s located in upper New York State.

I mean, okay? You guys started the downward slump in 2020, no? Not like Couture was single-handedly preventing it. You had EK putting up 100pts and still finished last. My point was, Peterka isn't going to prevent the continued decline after Sid and Malkin retire.
Downward slump is different from hitting the basement, which we didn’t do until after Logan was done playing. And I think you know as well as anyone that Karlsson’s 100 point season wasn’t a real representation of his impact as a player at this point.

I have nothing to say about Peterka or the Pens, just correcting your assumption about Couture.

They reported that the Rangers were interested, not that they were ever close. There is a possibility Lance was using Seravalli's own reporting on it. Not sure Lavoie's source.
Yeah, good call. This was what Lysowski tweeted:

Lavoie seemed to take it a step further and only focus on the Rangers. Seravalli said something similar and they probably got it from the same source

Either way, I'd definitely still be interested from a Rangers perspective. I think there's a pretty sizable trade to be made between both organizations that can benefit both teams moving forward from a roster and salary perspective. I guess we'll see what happens.

If there is truth to this then I imagine it would stem from 1 of 2 things (or some combination)

- Peterka not offering the style of play that the team wants (bigger players maybe, or seeing wing as a position of luxury given their other depth and prospects that they have)

- Peterka not wanting to sign there long term and fighting out every arbitration battle then leaving first chance (plus the concern of dealing with an uninterested player that could turn into a malcontent)

A good player locked in with term would probably be an intriguing option coming back. If it is a winger coming back then probably a different style of player. Also a Dman that plays big that can be a regular in the top 4.

I can't imagine this being a deal centered around a prospect or a pick coming back. Would have to be a hockey trade.

I'm guessing the Rangers were offering something around Schneider at the deadline. It obviously didn't move the needle. Would require more than that to make it happen.

Also, people mentioning guys with large NTCs or NMCs going back to Buffalo is just moot. There isn't a world where you should base your proposal on the assumption that Erik Karlsson is going to waive his NMC to go to Buffalo.

Except Peca is now in Chicago with Blashill

It has way more to do with the latter + incompetent coaching/management/ownership.

They got Thompson in the ROR trade so it's unfair to the Sabres to include both in this fantasy roster but you are forgetting Brandon Hagel so throw Cozens at 3rd line C and put Hagel on the 2nd line wing.

Extraordinary bag fumble by the Sabres giving away so much talent.

Eichel, Thompson, Reinhart, Hagel, Cozens, Peterka, Benson, Dahlin, Power, Byrum, Ullmark should be a cup contender right now.

Whoa now, I'll see your Pegula and raise you a Melnyk! Not only cheap and broke, but an alcoholic embarrassment and the man Larry Brooks called the worst owner in North American pro sports!

Eugene had the grace to die.
I forgot they picked Hagel.

And you didn't even include ROR or Kane

Ah yes, one of Botterill's big brain moments - not signing Hagel. Granted, the Habs then had him at dev camp in the summer and rookie camp in the fall and didn't sign him either.
