Seravalli: Buffalo may not have a choice but to trade Peterka

Eichel
Reinhart
Hagel
Cozens
Ullmark
Peterka
Byrum

Assuming the last 2 come to fruition (obviously nothing is certain), that's just an absurd amount of talent to hemorrhage in a short period of time.

I forgot they picked Hagel.

And you didn't even include ROR or Kane

Buffalo's needs:

1.) A RHD who can actually play defense and PK
2.) A two-way center
3.) A LHD who can play with Dahlin and soak lots of minutes and play defense

We've got wing prospects coming out the ears....we DON'T need any of those

Vancouver might be a decent trading partner depending on tier you’re looking for.

1. Willander or Mancini would be available. They’re on the young side, but both are forecasted to be contributing well next year.

2. Raty, Blueger, Chytil. There are holes with all of them, but, there is also upside with all of them.

3. The don’t really have that. E Pettersson would be the closest we have, but he’s also young, and management has deemed him untouchable.

We need a 2C and top 6 forwards essentially.

Hes a Centre right? Edit RW but still should be a target.
Nucks have lots of solid D prospects in Willander, Mancini (whos looked very impressive) Mynio, Kudriatzev plus the 15th overall.

Buffalo doesn’t give a shit about prospects. We have about 7,000 already. Assuming there’s anything to this rumor, I think there are at least a dozen other teams that would be able to offer packages that are much better fits for Buffalo’s needs than Vancouver.

Hey we've got a nice little Matheson who loves to play as many minutes as possible 😉

Getting the pieces needed to rebound doesn't always mean bottoming out nor does bottoming out guarantee you get those pieces. If I'm not mistaken, Couture has been on the SJS roster recently. Obviously his presence did nothing to prevent SJS from tanking. Just like I don't think Peterka is going to prevent the Penguins from tanking.

Every bottom dwelling team has a Peterka. I also think Zegras is a very good comp for Peterka.

I'm not even sure what you're arguing really? is your argument that the Penguins shouldn't trade for Peterka because he would interrupt their rebuild? If so, I do not think that is true. At all. My hope would be to add two top 6 centers in the next 3 drafts and once they come and are ready to go, you have a 26yo Peterka serving as the top line wing to pair them with.
You’re wildly mistaken, unfortunately. Couture hasn’t played since September 2023 outside of six games where he tried to come back in January 2024 but clearly wasn’t an NHL player anymore. He’s now retired because of the injury he suffered in 2023 training camp.

More that he stumbled into McDermott and that brought a competent GM in Beane than anything to do with Allen. Apparently they had to spend hours going over everything about Allen to convince Pegula he was the right guy to draft -- somewhere I read it was a 7 hour meeting.

He has had NFL success by accident. As an owner, there have been few if any worse in the 2000's.
Whoa now, I'll see your Pegula and raise you a Melnyk! Not only cheap and broke, but an alcoholic embarrassment and the man Larry Brooks called the worst owner in North American pro sports!

Not a lot in the area that is appealing for young 20 something world class athletes. It is a beautiful area to live in with great proximity to Toronto, Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, etc, and we have no shortage of players who retire in the area to raise their families, but it is a bore for a lot of players.

When you combine that with the lack of hockey success (ie the soul crushing weight of hopelessness), it makes it a hard sell.
Toronto is a dump and Niagara Falls is a tourist trap on most days.

Take it for what it's worth because it's Frank.

But he just did a YouTube video for daily faceoff and when they get to their trade target section he says that he believes that things have gone sideways between Buffalo and Peterka and that they may not have a choice but to trade him.

If that's true that's pretty bad he's a very good, young player.

The upside is there would be A LOT of interest they would get a solid return but it wouldn't be JJ Peterka
Frank translator beacon ts-' Totonto would love yo sign peterks at half what iy vista Marner.

Sign and trade

To :hawks
J.J. Peterka (8 x $9M)

To :sabres
D Wyatt Kaiser (RFA)
Hawks 2026 1st round pick (Unprotected)

- Hawks get a proven young NHL top 6 winger (23 yrs old) we can lock in for 8 years as part of core going forward

- Sabres get a 22 yr old NHL LD who established himself in Hawks top 4 this past season playing 57 Games with 4 goals + 4 assists while being even on dreadful Hawks team and playing 18 minutes a night

Offer sheet comp for Sabres at 9M for Peterka is a 1st + 2nd + 3rd but I would argue Hawks 1st + Kaiser is better value than other potential teams who would offer sheet

Sabres could then flip Hawks pick or their own 2026 1st to improve immediate roster at W or C if they desire

Connor Bedard is 19 yrs old, How are Hawks wasting his prime years?
Trading their 2026 1st round pick would be the stupidest thing Davidson could do and if the worst case scenario happens; losing out the opportunity to draft McKenna; he or any other GM should be fired on the spot.

I mean, okay? You guys started the downward slump in 2020, no? Not like Couture was single-handedly preventing it. You had EK putting up 100pts and still finished last. My point was, Peterka isn't going to prevent the continued decline after Sid and Malkin retire.

I still think they should take that 9th pick and trade it for something that can help them now instead of trading good players away.

I know it's not considered a great draft but it's still a top 10 pick.

It's time to add a good player.
