here's a fun stat

the top 5 high danger chance generators/60 on this team are, drumroll........

Cuylle
Edstrom
Berard
Chytil
Carrick

pathetic that kids and grinders are showing up a team full of seasoned vets.
They are facing lesser players as well though. I think every line but the 93-20 line is performing. I'm fine with giving them 4th line type minutes and letting Kreider run amok on special teams. Mika? I'd give him PK2 and PP2 at this point.

Yeah clearly he was the problem

They barely lost a game with him in the lineup last year. And it definitely made a change in the way they played. Its funny how people conveniently forget they went through a stretch like this last year and came out of it after calling up Rempe and Edstrom. Size and physicality. We have none of it.either call up Rempe or trade for a couple guys who bring that and can play. They should do both.
They barely lost games with anyone last year.

This year he’s added nothing

Trade Trocheck and replace him with Frederic lol. Trocheck looks incredibly washed. He's lucky he stayed conscious during the fight with Aube-Kubel. The way these guys skate and get pushed off the puck makes me think conditioning is an issue.
Trocheck averages 65 points per 82 games over the last five years. Over the last four years (extremely generous to Frederic not to include the fifth!) he averages 32 points. Literally double.

You just dropped 33 points at -I guarantee you- the same price range.

That's why I insulted you. I say this as you being a poster I have some respect and hope for, you have lost the plot. You have reached the point of just hating offense. You want everyone to be a shit-starter and you've forgotten that we need some talent.

Suggesting they should swap Trocheck at 5.6 for Frederic at probably 5.2 is inexcusable. You're better than that.

Idk what you mean by washed. He’s like 29, signed for 5.6 million.

It’s a pretty good contract especially with the cap rising

He's 31, which is the only legitimate concern that could be thrown at him.

He got off to a slow start, but he's starting to cook recently.

He's always been a reliable 5v5 player, always had decent habits, always willing, and his contract is a fireable offense for his agent.

I don't understand lumping Trocheck in with the rest of school children because "muh veteran." He's never been problematic.

He's 31 and he has 3 more years and an NMC kicking in in July. I dont mind the AAV at all, but he only started playing well this year like 5 games ago. I have a bad taste in my mouth with all the veterans.

Appreciate you having "hope" for me lol but I'll be OK. The only reason I get shit on all the time is because I suggest players that you dont like. You never suggest any moves, just talk down to people when you dont agree with them.

You dont even know Frederic's asking price (using him as an example but Im not married to any one guy) . I dont see why dealing Trocheck before he declines for young assets (a young center or D perhaps) and then signing a player like Frederic to backfill the middle 6 role we had Trocheck penciled into long term with a younger, bigger and more physical player, is a bad idea. Greenway is another guy who would be on the cheaper end. Mathieu Olivier is a very underrated player on CBJ who is also a UFA. You think the team has no skill. I think they have plenty of skill, they just dont ever have anyone in the middle of the ice to utilize it. Opposing goalies dont break a sweat when the Rangers skill players are all halfwall huggers.

They have far from a surplus of skill and you have to replace the skill you lose whether they're overall bad players or not.

It's not about being married to one guy. There's nobody you can suggest to replace Trocheck that I'm going to have any interest in unless it's a 65-point center that plays with an edge.

I don't like to suggest specific players that aren't free agents because imagining trades is pissing into the wind. If you really want one, Alex Turcotte.

Kopitar is 37 and the Kings are likely to move their chips to the middle of the table. Turcotte doesn't have a spot with them and has put up 9 even strength points in 20 games this year essentially playing 4th line minutes. His underlying numbers at 5v5 are excellent. I think he's next Brassard/Zibanejad type breakout at center.

I'm sure you'll immediately shoot that down because he's short and doesn't have a warrant out, but I want to move on from Zibanejad and replace him with somebody who has a prayer of making up the production. That's common sense to me.

Troch actually has a NMC clause NOW. It becomes a limited NTC on July 1st. 12 no trade teams in '25, 10 in '26, and 6 each of the last two years.

Panarin-Chytil-Lafreniere
Berard-?????-Perreault
Cuylle-Trocheck-Othmann/Sykora
Edstrom-Idk sign someone-Chmelar

Vakawhatever-Fox
?????-Schneider
Jones-Mancini

Just get rid of Zibanejad somehow and use Miller, whichever one of Othmann/Sykora, Kreider, and possibly free agency to fill the gaps WITH SKILL please! I'd go into battle with that group.

The missing center should be like a Brad Richards was for us. He added to the ability to carry the puck and make zone entries to a caveman ass team and he was a good signing.
Eichel in UFA to fill the 1C spot. Also who knows what the cap looks like but if we sell off some pieces the Rangers could have a ton of cap space and picks to where they can lo9k to make a huge trade either next offseason or in 2026.

It depends, as it always does, on what his ask is and how dumb other teams are willing to be, but absolutely we should consider it.

The next core group of players has a stark lack of talent.

It is, after all, the Rangers.

Emily Kaplan said the Rangers will be in on the big names in UFA coming up the next couple of years. Emily saying it means little by itself but her words match Dolan's words when he canned Gorton and JD. Dolan wants the Rangers to be in on the Big Name UFAs. That's also why Igor could hold the Rangers over the barrel and get his hugely inflated bag. So, the whole deal is set up like that- gritty worker bees in the pipeline, then UFA stars to lead the charge.

I doubt Panarin will be extended for that reason, the next big UFA will simply take his place. Mika will be pushed out the door at some point over the next 24 months.

The upcoming UFA market looks pretty grim to me outside of wing which I really don't have much interest in. Eichel doesn't hit until 2027. I guarantee you McDavid doesn't make it to UFA.

A solution at C and D would most likely be a trade.

Wingers is not where it's at unless you have the C to feed them, which we don't. Then again trading wingers for quality C and D is difficult at best, the return is most likely prospects and picks.

I have no problem with Turcotte, if he is what you say he is. I don't know much about him. I think the Rangers should use their aging veterans to retool with multiple younger depth pieces. I say that multiple times a day on the board in fact. Just because I said Rempe should get a call-up to throw a bone to the fans who pay to see these sad sacks play at MSG, doesn't mean I want a team of face punching goons. I want guys who drive to the middle and crash the net at forward, and guys who can keep people off our 100 million dollar goalie on defense. Hell Berard is 5'9 and he's the best guy on the team at driving the net. And Fox is a smaller guy, but he's the best on the team at keep people away from Igor in the D-zone. Don't blame your preconceived notions of my biases, blame our idiot coach who doesnt play these guys so their SKILL (see what I did there), can be utilized properly.

The guys who dont have enough skill are Mika and Kreider. Chytil's got a ton of it, Lafreniere was the 1st OA pick and he's got a ton of it, Cuylle has a hard heavy wrist shot and a nose for the net. That's skill. The problem is these guys don't play in situations that allow them to show it.

With the market we're in, bright lights big city, to quote Ric Flair, they're always looking for a big name to put butts in seats, to quote Tony Schiavone. Jagr, Gaborik, Nash, Panarin, etc.

Totally agree about Mika and Kreider. Their skill has always been limited. However, they have been proven point-getters and you have to replace that when they're gone. Maybe not 1:1 as Cuylle, Chytil, and Laf get more opportunities, but at least making sure the replacements are on the same level as those three guys so you can get some balanced scoring. Their production isn't easy to replace whether you like them or not.

I absolutely believe you when you say you don't want goons and you just want guys that play the right way. When you suggest replacing a 65-point center on a 40-point contract with Trent Frederic and Jordan Greenway, people might say 'whoa there, partner, you got a little bit too face-punchy that time."

The Rangers getting Eichel on a massive deal when he's already 30 after swinging and missing on trading for him at 25 is too perfect
