Buffalo and Utah are the two teams I watch 20+ games from each year unfortunately. I've been thinking for a while what trade I can come up with to help both teams.

My proposal is a swap of Bowen Byram for Dmitri Simashev.

Buffalo has an excessive of offensive defensemen. Simashev likely comes over to the NHL this summer and gives Buffalo much more of what Buffalo needs on the blue line. Even if Simashev takes a little time to adjust, Buffalo probably is on a slightly longer time scale to realistically make the playoffs than Utah is. And just like it's possible Simashev takes time to adjust, it's also possible he comes in and really helps. Byram, while redundant in Buffalo, makes Utah considerably better now. Put Byram in place of Ian Cole next to Kesselring on Utah's second pair.

I don't like it for Buffalo unless Power is being traded for a very good right handed D who can actually play defense. Byram seems to form a good pairing with Dahlin, and Buffalom needs to address 2RD / shutdown RHD. You're trading a guy working out okay on your top pair and you aren't addressing one of your top needs, so IDK.

I don't like it for Utah because they their LD looks good already now and in the future without trading for somebody, and Simashev could end up being better than Byram and is also younger.

While the jury is out on Simashev, it makes little sense to trade him for a player like Byram. They already have Sergachev and Durzi (and Kesselring) for offense from the D.

Only if Buffalo acquires are mid pair RD in another trade would i consider this.

They have a bunch of prospect RD both in Rochester and unsigned. They might draft more this year.

The problem for Byram in Buffalo is he's not gonna get the primo offensive minutes to justify getting paid like he thinks he deserves to be paid.

I'm not convinced that he will ever be capable of being a top pairing guy.

Good deal for Buffalo. Might be a good for Utah as well.
