Buffalo gets their coveted 2C who is signed at an affordable long term deal. Lightning get a higher offensive upside winger and replace Cirelli with either Paul or Geekie.
Pay no attention to this man. This deal is great for Tampa and horrible for BuffaloSo Tampa gets significantly worse at C amd in overall team defense to add an offensive minded winger to a team that doesn't lack offensive talent. Peterka brings no added size either. Terrible move for Tampa.

What about Nylander+McMann for Cirelli+Bjorkstrand?I was just suggesting the basis of a deal, but yeah I agree. This would be more complicated but make more sense for us.
JJ Peterka
Ryan McLeod
Anthony Cirelli
Oliver Bjorkstrand
The value is there but Nylander cannot be the highest player on Tampa. No deal. What about Nylander+McMann for Cirelli+Bjorkstrand?
We've disputed this in numerous threads now but Tampa has like 5 guys who can play center without Cirelli and literally two right wingers. JBB can trade someone else for a center. Maybe even move out some cap and sign Tavares. Who knows. I'm all over this deal. Sorry Hagel, I know you like Cirelli, but it's a businessSo Tampa gets significantly worse at C amd in overall team defense to add an offensive minded winger to a team that doesn't lack offensive talent. Exactly this. If Tampa was hurting at wing and had great depth at C, then sure, this trade might make sense from both sides. Tampa is fairly well positioned at wing, though, so it just doesn't from Tampa's end.Buffalo says yes to Peterka for Cirelli, but I doubt Tampa does, since losing Cirelli for a winger hurts them at center.
Trading Cirelli for another forward is stupid considering how old our best defenseman are. We've disputed this in numerous threads now but Tampa has like 5 guys who can play center without Cirelli and literally two right wingers. And Peterka isnt a right winger, JBB already traded for a top 6 RW and additional winger depth, and Cirelli is an integral core piece. Tampa has no cap space to acquire another high quality 2C, nor are teams with them lining up to move them. Tampa doesn't have the internal C depth either to replace him at this time. Yoir argument remains weak and unconvincing. Sorry you can't help but want to trade Cirelli for the next shiny toy, but as you said, it's a business, and moving Cirelli for JJP is bad business. We've disputed this in numerous threads now but Tampa has like 5 guys who can play center without Cirelli and literally two right wingers. Didn’t they just do this with Sergachev? So, Cirelli has a NTC... on July 1st, not beforehand.
If you as a player sign a long extension, and no-trade protection is an important part of the deal/discount you gave the team, and the team turns around and trades you before it goes into effect on July 1, then the GM of that team is formally in compliance with league rules. But man, does it make the GM and team look greasy.
It also makes me wonder whether future players will give discounts to that team/GM on the basis of no-trade/-move protection that isn't worth the paper it's printed on until it goes into effect on a future date.
Bottom line, trading him before July 1 is permitted, but heavily frowned on within the NHL community.
Yup! And it's left a lot of people thinking the way they do business is pretty cutthroat.Didn’t they just do this with Sergachev?
No, he has a full NTC for 2025-26, but the 2025-26 season only begins on July 1st. Until then, they can trade him freely.I feel like jjp would be absolutely tremendous for Tampa and that they could fill that 2c hole rather easily whether through trade or free agency and while I still would like cirelli I feel it just makes Tampa more dangerous for longer. Still as I said I'd pull the trigger as a Sabres fan but it requires cirelli to waive
Cirelli is a 3c. This woul.d be the usual stupid move by Buffalo.Trading Cirelli for another forward is stupid considering how old our best defenseman are.
