Jack Quinn

Moves young players with potential from positions of depth to positions of weakness on both teams.
Sure. Some King's fans may like Spence more that I do. King's have too many D.

Don't know if King's would give Jack Quinn any ice time. They don't like skilled players that don't grind in corners.

I don't think Buffalo does this one-for-one. I'd value Quinn more, and I like Spence (even though he's plateaued at this point and isn't particularly impressive in the playoffs).

I think with the puck-moving talent on the left side in Buffalo you'd want RD that compliment that skillset defensively as opposed to a small puck-moving righty in Spence.

We need guys who can play well in their own zone. Admittedly west coast teams, I don’t get to see much, but his defensive analytics are superb. Do you think that’s more of a result of his partner/matchups than his skillset?

Wouldn't really want to play him above the 3rd pair. If he had a better partner maybe Spence would look better.

I had this exact thought for a trade proposal earlier today reading the Clarke thread. I think LA is being really dumb with how they're using Clarke, but trading Spence for a right handed middle-6 winger both opens up a spot for Clarke and also adds a position of need for them.

The big thing I was unsure about is whether Spence was really the kind of defenseman Buffalo would be targeting. I don't feel like he is, but RHD is such a big need for Buffalo that I was wondering if they'd overlook that. If LA had that kind of bigger defensive RHD, I think LA and Buffalo would make fantastic trade partners.

It is absolutely poor asset management to trade Quinn this season. He has flashed 30-40 goal potential with solid defensive metrics. This season with a new coach and coming back from two significant injuries could just be a down season for him. He may be playing afraid to get injured but is approaching 50 games without an injury.

Quinn's value is such an enigma. One day he plays like a 30-30 player and others he plays like a 20 pt player. Consistency is what he needs to be successful. I remember him coming off injury in a 15 game sample size he was almost PPG. His shot is FANTASTIC.

The question is, do the Sabres wait for him to develop or get impatient and trade him before he realizes his potential? Can we afford to set playoffs as a goal while 'developing' a top 9 player?

I'm so glad I'm not the GM. I'd make bad trades after bad trades.
