What the f*** is Buffalo doing lol it's gonna be a bad realization when he's a 10 pt player next year without Leon to play with to inflate your numbers

Is it the injury that you haven't liked? He was great in the WHL last season.
I think other prospects like Firkus who were drafted the same year but way later playing better was also a factor in disappointment from BUF side.

BUF also had no room for him in their top 6 going forward. Way too many similar skill players.

0.0 Draisaitl is signing in Edmonton.

He’s going to join a loaded Blackhawks lineup and join Bedard or go play with his buddy Pastrnak

Feel bad for Edmonton but he gone
His agent recently said he’s certain his extension in Edmonton will get done.

Drai also said he loves playing here and thinks the Oilers have the best ownership in the League.

Maybe he leaves, maybe he stays. But if you think it’s a lock he’s gone, you are wrong.

Mcleod’s ceiling is a high end, defensive specialist 3rd liner. He’s already an excellent PKer but is a soft perimeter player and not really made for playoff hockey. This could be a potential highway robbery for Edmonton.

NJD likely makes the playoffs if McLeod remains on the team.

He was absolutely carrying the bottom 6.
Definitely agree with this assessment. Nail in the coffin for them.

I'm not sure if Ryan can take his game to the level Michael's was at this season, or even if Michael would have continued playing this way in future seasons. We'll never know on that one, and we'll have to wait and see how things go with Ryan.

Broberg might sign an offersheet if there is not LD room on the team for him.

It's funny that a rookie was thrown into division finals and forced to play their offside in playoffs instead of a veteran like Nurse or Kulak.

Also Kulak a 3rd pairing Dman making 2.75M might be too much for MrJackson.
I expect Broberg would have signed an offer sheet already if one was waiting for him. I'm not worried about that at all. I also expect that if we trade Ceci, Broberg gets the 2RD spot, even if he shoots left. He played well in that role in the playoffs.

Nurse was struggling at LD in the playoffs. Asking him to swap sides, which he has never done, would have been awful.

Kulak is an anchor at LD. He is more valuable being the "safe" piece there than he would be as 2RD with a struggling Nurse. We need Kulak to ensure that Josh Brown isn't killing us defensively on a nightly basis.

Kulak at 2.75M is better value than Ceci at 3.25M, when either player would be replaced by Broberg if they were traded. If Broberg gets $1M, then we save an extra 500K by trading the inferior Ceci.

Sabres also got Tullio. Mostly a nothing prospect IMO. But there’s atleast one amateur scout in Edmonton who thinks he will be a player cause of his grit. Sabres fans can look up Bruce Curlock if they want to feel good about their additions today. Very detailed scouting reports provided for both of the new Sabres today.

Now that absolutely makes a ton of sense. If Savoie isn't the type of player your coach likes, its best to trade him now before he kills any value the player has.

Not really.. Ruff is probably only here fir 2 years and Savoie would of been in Rochester this year

People who don’t really follow the prospect world and say “wow Savoie!!!!” Becuase he was a big name who at one top in 2021/2022 was challenging for a top spot in the draft but don’t realize he’s not that anymore.

Still a decent prospect but haven’t liked his progression since his draft year. Projects as a middle 6 scorer than a star some projected him as. Still perfectly reasonable to think EDM won this deal but savoie isn’t some can’t miss blue chip prospect like some people are making him out to be
Isn’t his production progression in line with what you’d expect of a 9OA forward talent?

some oilers fans really hated mcleod it seems, im shocked

someone who's been keeping up with Savoie, what can we expect of him come october. is he NHL ready and at what role?
There's a difference between hate and seeing the flaws in a player. We can point out his flaws without hating him. We can like this trade without hating him.

It's hard to know if Savoie is NHL ready, but he'll probably get a good, long look in camp, and maybe a short stint with the big club to see if he is ready come regular season. The Oilers are more likely to play veterans on the main club over rookies, I expect. I think his injuries might make the big club want him to take it slowly with a year in the AHL first.

Foegle and McLeod are losses that Oilers will feel. I like those two going up against the Vegas and Vancouver mammoth D’s more than Savoie and Skinner.

“Body Checker” from HF’s apparent dream team lineup at forward:

Foegele - McLeod - Foegele
McLeod - Foegele - McLeod
Foegele - McLeod - Foegele
McLeod - Foegele - McLeod

He’s heavily stagnated as a prospect, and that was documented well before this trade.

This fair..

Oilers didn't really need him to be a top line player down the road either.
Our prospect pool is depleted where a case can be made for a guy like Tullio to be organizations top 5 prospect.
Savoie is comfortably the top Oilers prospect now with the recent 32nd overall pick (OReilly) being the 2nd best.

i don't get this trade isn't Savoie a pretty good prospect

He is but he is one of a plethora of prospects Sabres have.... Its a bad trade value wise. But Savoie is small and gets hurt easily. He'll need to beef up to make it in NHL. Chances are he turns out better than McCloud but Sabres needed an upgrade over Peyton Krebs at 3C ... and they the patience in Buffalo has worn out.

Like everyone else I agree it's an overpay.. but a I am more than fine with it.

The doghouse
Somehow I just knew there would be people calling Savoie a bust or going through the mental gymnastics about how Edmonton didn't fleece Buffalo in this trade. HF mainboards always delivers with the worst hockey takes I've ever seen.

Dude, this entire thread is 90% of people shitting on the sabres and saying exactly what you said they aren’t. Your oiler victim mentality must be extremely strong not to see that. Holy crap?
