Value of: Buchnevich to Montreal

You obviously have to give to add a prime age established scoring winger to your team.

Hage and a strong 1st round pick (top 2 protected) would be the main value.

However the Blues have a glut of forward prospects on the cusp: Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Stenberg and Stancl (who is making a big move right now) all look legit and in similar timing as Hage.

[Major RHD prospect is also a Blues need but not too much else ... you offering Reinbacher?]

Montreal has plenty of wingers and shouldn't be looking at guys like Buchnevich. The premise of this trade makes no sense apart of the unnecessary idea of getting a Russian in Montreal.

A Russian addition in Montreal would need to be a top6 C or a top4 RD.

Why not go after like a Tarasenko or Dadonov or someone in that range that’s on the backend of their career instead of Buch who just signed an extension for 6 years?

Highly unlikely Blues entertain moving Buch. Even less likely Habs fans would like to pay the price that it would require.

We don't have a spot for any of them.

Caufield-Slaf
Laine-Demidov
Newhook-Heineman
Gallagher-Anderson

Need to trade someone out to get one in and that's not counting the winger prospects that should be pushing for spots next year.

It just doesn't make sense to pay fair value assets for a winger right now.

I like the premise of adding a Russian player to help Demidov, but a very pricey Top-6 winger whose biggest impact would be to push down Demidov (or Slafkovsky or Laine) down the depth chart because of the money he commands would be all sorts of stupid.

Go for someone like Namestnikov. Or Artyom Zub (well, NOT Zub, but someone like him, can't think of a great fit on top of my head. No, not Romanov).

Dadonov- perfect!!!!!! He played so well when he was a member of the Canadiens and really seemed to enjoy his time in Montreal!

Ovechkin had no other Russians on the team in his rookie season and he was fine. Demidov has character and charisma, he will adjust quickly. We don't need Buch.

I don't think.
You should try it once in a while. You'd be amazed at what you can accomplish.

I don't think that would go over well with the fanbase. They'd slash the tires on his plane, never mind his car.

Depending on how the Pens finish the season, the only player who would meet the Habs needs would be Malkin. He is Russian, on an expiring contract, slots in as a 2nd line center, and is a left shot which Montreal does not have at center.

Habs may look at adding a Russian to mentor Demidov but it's not an obsessive search.

I'm a Habs fan and I love Buch & what he brings to the Blues. I think he's a very complete player that is underestimated by a lot of people even in this thread.
But it just doesn't work with the Habs' team makeup/plan.

It would basically only make sense if all of:
(1) The plan is to drop Laine, either due to lack of consistency/health/salary demands
(2) Demidov is tried and sticks at C next year
(3) Dach demonstrates no long-term ability to play in the top 6
(4) The Blues don't ask for Hage or Reinbacher back (and he actually amounts to something after his injury) - everyone else is fair game to me

Unfortunately we won't know the answer of the first 2 questions until late next year which defeats the purpose.

Also Buch has a M-NTC right now and a NTC starting this coming July.

I'd rather have Crosby.

I mean we could just bring our Russians in. I hear Bogdan Konyushkov is planning on coming over for the upcoming training camp despite still being under contract with Torpedo. I think he's planning on buying himself out if it goes well. Eventually Evgeni Volokhin may come over as well.
