Buccigross: Wings will play Blue Jackets at Ohio Stadium on March 1, 2025

You're welcome NHL :sarcasm:

I know that's just a "nyuck-nyuck I'm so funny lol Columbus" comment (and I'm sure there will be many more in this thread to come since the mains can't help themselves when presented with any opportunity to punch down), but it's also stupid. The franchise has been around 24 years. We're not talking about Seattle here.
On the other hand, Seattle got an outdoor game before we did, so perhaps some folks are just under that misapprehension, amirite?

In unrelated news, I hate everything and everyone.

Do these games always sell out, because I feel like there might not be enough interest for this one to be a sellout. Not sure the Wings fans are really going to travel for this, and I'm not sure there's enough local Columbus fans to fill up the place.

I'm in conflict here.

I make sure to not watch any outdoor games.

I make sure to watch Blue Jackets games.

I think I will try to not watch this one, it will just be hard to watch like all the other outdoor games.
Just get an eye patch and watch the whole game with one eye, so you can both watch and not watch at the same time.

Judging by a review of stadium capacities and attendance numbers on Wikipedia, they actually generally don't - altho they usually come close to it.

And given all the shit we've gone through for the entirety of our franchise's existence and still getting sellouts at the Nat, anyone who still doubts this fanbase's bonafides at this point just isn't paying attention.

Sounds great.

The real question is when will Detroit host an ASG or Draft? LCA is a fantastic arena, continually lauded as one of the best in the league and is now nearing 8 years old. Detroit hasn't hosted an ASG since 1980 and an Entry Draft since 1987.

Detroit will never host another league event.

Since 1980 multiple teams have had 4+ drafts or all-star games before Detroit has gotten one of either.

I'm going to fly out and some of my family from the Toledo area said they wanted to come down to the game, so it could attract attention for the novelty.

Ticket prices could be lowered to get people there since with such a large stadium, it looks embarrassing when there's only 20k-30k people there. I remember back in the late 90s when there was a friendly between the Columbus Crew MLS team and the UK's Leeds United at Ohio Stadium, they were handing out free tickets to get more students to go to avoid it looking like there weren't soccer fans in the US - even though it was pretty decent attendance for a Crew game back then.

All you need to do is tell the Ohio fans(more specifically the Columbus/OSU fans) that we want to beat Michigans record of 107k+ attendance when they had a game and they would flock out of spite alone. If the jackets are even close to competing for a playoff spot, I expect it to be sold out.

Might be more effective if SRO tickets are sold, since the Shoe's official capacity recently went down to about 102K. But yeah, it's very doable.

I don't think it's actually possible for us to beat their record because of capacity, but we can at least show that we can pack out 100k plus.

Anything less is going to be a disappointment tbh.

Makes sense to me, and it's a huge venue so could make for a good scene given the obvious proximity of Jackets fans, the ease at which they will likely reach out to Buckeyes fans, and the traveling ability of Wings fans to a nearby destination. Provided that they don't go crazy with ticket prices, should fill out well.

Have to imagine that they'll go for at least a twofer and have a college game or two before or after as well.

Apparently the rumor is no game this year but there might be one the year after.

I’m always shocked at how large US college stadiums are, especially considering the stadiums Canadian University teams play in:

Foote Field?

Only 3.5k? G-ddamn. My high school's stadium (also, amusingly, host to the Golden Bears) has more than double that at 8641:

That is not the real question for this topic. The Jackets have been awarded their first outdoor game. Let them have their day.

Wings fan will definitely travel for this. Its a short 3 hour or so drive away from Detroit and we havent been in one of these since 2017.

I don't really care about outdoor games anymore but at least we can put the "CBJ has never had one" saying to bed.

Will anybody care about this? Hell, I just found out today there was an outdoor game tonight with Philly and NJ
