Does anybody know what happened?

There is no news at the current time. Given it appears to be a sudden passing, and he was in Montreal for the draft, you would usually suspect something such as a stroke or heart issue, but that's just speculation.

Bryan was also an Ex Leaf himself.

What the hell man, he was only 53....

RIP Bryan.... One of the most feared NHLer ever played that game.

I'm surprised he only played one year for us. In my mind, it seemed like he was around for longer than that.

But yeah, shocking to hear the news. My thoughts immediately went to Mason, who had such a great year only to have it end like this.

Wishing him and the rest of the Marchment family the best at this difficult time.

53 is young, but his playing style made him a prime candidate for CTE related issues. For all the softness in the league these days, can you blame the kids for not wanting to go barreling head first into the corners? Somewhere, Willy N is shaking his head.

RIP big man!

RIP, 53 is too young to die. Very unfortunate.

We've been seeing a lot of deaths in sports for "unknown reasons" lately, some even in their 20s. Idk if this was always a thing or something more recent only.

Possible but let’s not jump to conclusions. Regardless, this is extremely sad news. RIP.

I bet at least a dozen retired players felt their knees tingle at once.

I'll never forget that time he tried to knee Jason Allison and took himself out for nearly two months instead.

I remember Mike Ribeiro scoring a goal against TOR and 1 sec. later Marchment flattened him like a pancake. Ribeiro was so undone that his teammates had to peel him off the ice to celebrate the goal.

RIP

Oh wow, far too young! My deepest condolences go out to Bryan's family, all of his friends, and to the Sharks organization at this very sad time.
