Hi All,
I published and posted this mid-summer and with the NHL season just a few days away, I am posting one more time for those that may not have been active on forum at that time.

Bryan Fogarty was a generational talent born a generation too soon...He was the Nordiques first round pick ahead of Joe Sakic in 1987...Here is my longform piece on his career which may be of interest to fans of the Avs franchise...feel free to share and/or comment.

Thanks for reading.

He had personnal problems , a lot of demons to deal with. It's a sad story from a guy with tremendous talent. Today's players can ask for help when they are in Fogarty's situation , we have to wonder if it would have been a different story in today's game . When you're coming out of junior and they say that you could be the next Bobby Orr , knowing what happend after , it's just sad.

Damn you sure put a lot of time and effort in that article. Good job.

I posted this one before but here's a rare pic of Fogarty with John Kordic

Holy cow this was well written. I learned a lot more about Fogarty whereas before I just knew him as a promising prospect the Nordiques had that didn't pan out due to alcoholism. What a sad tale of what could have been.

Really wanted to just say thank you for sharing this with us. I knew a bit of the story but this was extremely well done. Although this story is tragic, I'm glad you chose to write and share it with us.

For what it is worth, I personally much prefer sports journalism when it is about the atheletes themselves and not just breaking down games. This was great and reminds me of how Portzline will do in-depth player stories from time to time (the one he did on Bread comes to mind readily).

Amyways, thank you... seriously.

He was absolutely unbelievable and I got to watch him live quite a bit for the Niagara Falls Thunder as a teenager. I was there the night he broke Bobby Orr's OHL record for points as a d-man. Being a Nordiques fan at the time, I was sooooo optimistic for the future at that time.

Just an amazing talent who could seemingly take the puck behind his own net and just skate up the ice and deke around everyone and get a chance on net - whenever he wanted to. Crazy talented player... it makes me sad he couldn't get it all under control.
