I was talking to my seat neighbor and he asked the same thing. I say no, but he will be on a very short leash next season.
Yeah I think he starts next season, but if it starts like this one did I don't think Trotz has much choice but to pull the plug. The team pretty much quit on him this season, another like this and I think there is no pretty much, I think they just flat tell him to kiss their butts.

I suppose there are still exit interviews and if players like ROR, Stamkos, Josi and Saros tell Trotz to fire Bruno it might have some sway?

Wishful thinking I'm sure.
Based on my life experience, you are correct about wishful thinking. Trotz may have to be fired to get rid of Bruno.

Maybe it was just his approach to the question but Stillman asked him point blank if Bruno is back next year and he said he hasn't decided and he needed to conduct his exit interviews with players and coaches before he makes a decision. Now that could mean he's decided unless somebody tells him Bruno was drowning puppies in the locker room and it's just a formality... but I like that there might be a sliver of hope he sees the issues.

He's still clinging to this idea that he wasn't fired so Bruno shouldn't be either.

You assume Trotz would find drowning puppies to be a character flaw, but he would probably just view it as proof of a "hard to play against" mindset.

Did we really not even have a gameday thread? Jesus wept the apathy is strong.

I would be shocked if Bruno isn't back as coach next year. Especially with the family stuff and the injuries to end the year.

Short leash next year. Need to see how things go up to the all star break to have enough games to make a proper evaluation.
I respectfully disagree - if we go 3-7 again (losing 5 in a row to start), Bruno should be booted with the largest Doc Marten known to mankind.

I can't think of a logical reason he should be back. If Trotz feels he's the guy, that's all that matters in the end. At the same time, if Trotz truly feels that way, we need a new GM because there is nothing about the way we played this year that makes me go, oh yeah, we're going to turn it around next year.

Let's see... Trotz coached here 15 years... made the playoffs in Year 6... won a round in Year 12...

Missed the playoffs 8/15 years, won exactly 2 playoff rounds in 15 years.

So I figure that Bruno has a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong leash? :help:

Keep bruno
Keep the young players out of Nashville next season unless they have to deal with waivers
Fill in holes with Nashville roster with 1 year contracts and be prepared to sell off UFAs at the deadline: Bunting, sissons, Lauzon, Blankenburg, etc. Really try and pump up that value
After bruno runs the team into the ground next season, take another top 5 pick and fire him into the sun.

I suspect that this is what will happen anyway.

Just it will be under the guise of Trotz thinking that his few paltry veteran UFA additions will actually vault us into the playoffs. And the young players weren't ready anyway.

But the end result will be the same. :help:

Trotz should be fired, and that would lead to a new coach. This management team is just an extension of the Poile regime. No changes to any one in management. It's a country club atmosphere with the management team, and Bruno is the new inductee. Trotz calling this season of misfortunate events is just insane. We are a bad team. Our prospect pool took a hit and are stagnating, we misuse our youth and put them in situations where it's hard for them to succeed, and we're going to go into the season next year with the same mindset of this season of "predators hockey" where we're "hard to play against". We need a new GM from outside of our system to start fresh. Predators hockey which has over-relied on Vezina quality goaltending just to make it into the playoffs for continued mediocrity has been, for the most part, an abject failure. We're an old, bad team with, outside this top 3(hopefully) pick, not a lot of hope for the future; especially how this team develops prospects. We have got to be the worst team in the league for prospect development. It's time to do away with this entire system of "Predators Hockey"

Whether to fire Bruno or not really depends where you're aiming next year.

Playoffs?

I've said this before but I can't recall a SINGLE incident where a potentially contending team has bottomed out as hard as we did and brought back the same coach next year in order to get BACK into contention.

Lottery pick?

Then sure, bring him back. There's no way in hell he can get the players to back him up to make any sort of noise next year.

The one problem with that is that USUALLY teams which are actually aiming for a lottery pick... are also trying to actively integrate younger players towards a brighter one-day future. Which is something we know Bruno won't do. So. I'm not sure there is even a "sure, bring him back" outcome that works here. :dunno:

I wouldn't expect a replacement coach to work miracles. We're still a weak, thin, old, slow team. We're not going to make the playoffs, regardless. But maybe a new coach would at least play the youngsters more? While probably still landing us in lottery pick range. :dunno:

That was just my guess of what was gonna happen. Team needs a rebuild and the UFA pool isn't gonna fix it. Might as well let Bruno be the tank commander next season. He has 2 more seasons so I doubt we get rid of him that quick.

Another top 5 pick will nab us another great prospect to build around and if we build enough value into Bunting, Lauzon, et al we may get another 1st round pick to play with. It sucks expecting us to be bad enough for another top 5 pick but the only way I see us not being there is if Bruno is canned and I don't see that happening.

In the meantime, I'll be dreaming of the McKenna sweepstakes but would be perfectly OK with Roobroek, Lin, or Verhoeff (given current trajectory for those players).
