There is more definitely behind the scenes here. There was times he just went on leave for no reason that was told and then came back. My guess this is a mutual thing.

What a skewed headline! How could any team cut ties with a champion?!

He wasn't cracking a really bad lineup. Seems fair to let him go at this point in the guy's career if you're not going to play him.

I will say that I'd have to guess he was at least more suited, despite being very long in the tooth, to play in a top 6 roll than quite a bit of the other trash they've tried this season.

Either way, Poitras, Merkulov, and Lysell should be up over some aging vet occupying that spot. I assume Wahlstrom will be given a shot and then similarly dumped for ineffective play. Hopefully I'm wrong and the change of scenery spurs him on, but I don't see much there to this point in his career.

It seems like something more than just him not being able to earn a spot in the lineup, unless the termination is just the Bruins doing the guy a solid for his willingness to hang around and wait for a contract. Otherwise, they could have waived him to Providence and buried the cap hit and if he refused to report, get off the hook for the whole amount.
