What about Coyle?
Yep, if you're gonna bench the captain (and Bruins all-time OT goal scoring leader) for having a bad game, then you better bench all the players having a bad game (like Coyle who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn today)

but then you double down and also put him in the shootout

..home boys will be home boys

Game was very entertaining, but I don't know how you manage to blow a 2 goal lead like that after grinding all game, just brutal

Really loved the way they played. Deserved the W. Lindholm made a few noticably bad plays tonight. Not a Lindholm hater but I noticed this game. getting 73 and 27 back would be a huge boost. But we'll see how that goes.

What team are you taking about?

I know people talk a lot about trades , but how much of the slow starts and poor closing periods and games comes back to coaching?

I don't think our D is lacking talent, but they seem to be confused....their fault or the way they are coached?
They have been dominated 3 straight games. Its a matter of lack of talent more than anything.

How can it be that "Hahvard" Donny has build such a dumb team? These guys, from top to bottom, whether they're stars or vets or kids or JAGs, consistently make bad, costly decisions on the ice. So many self-inflicted injuries.

They can do good things. They battled back from a horrendous start, they were physical and stood up for each other, they make some really tough, gritty effort plays like on Lattieri's goal, Sway was solid, until the last 5 mins they were in a pretty fast and loose back and forth contest that rather suited the Sens and had them all but beaten at their own game. That's all positive. But then they threw it all away through sheer dunder-headed incompetence, just as mistakes and lack of mental strength and awareness have cost them all season.

The Bruins have shown some mental fragility for a few years now but the level of outright stupid is what's really been dialled up this season. How much that's on coaching, the players, the leadership, lack of confidence, belief and trust in each other or whatever else is hard to say. But the malaise is deep and won't be easily fixed. They're also consistently getting monstered now in terms of possession and shot attempts, which for a team that for a long time liked to carry the play and have the puck on its stick, and which lacks scoring quality, is a particularly bad sign. Also points to their sheer slowness.

Not a dull game by any means, some of it was proper fun. But the bad parts are tough to watch. Pavel 'couldn't hit a soccer net' Zacha taking the final crucial shootout attempt was just the icing on a very sour end to this clash. Deary me.

Was Cam Neely or Kevin Stevens the Captain when Steve Kasper benched them both?
No it was Bourque. Jumbo Joe may have been benched.

You had Montgomery berating Marchand already this year in Utah, Coach getting fired, the rumored lockerroom discourse and now him being benched by an interim coach. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Keep up the physicality and defense of teammates and even if losing I will be proud of the team. The attitude the last few games is refreshing.

The rest of the issues are on the GM and roster building.
And the coaching. They continue to struggle clearing the puck and make mind boggling bad decisions with the puck.

They’re fortunate it’s NFL Divisional Playoffs; typically considered the best weekend in sports all year.

They already fired the coach.

Now they blow a 2 goal 3rd period lead and the interim coach benches the captain.

Jaffe was killing Swayman for shooting for the empty net and failing to clear the zone.

This is critical mass. They’re on the outside looking in.
It’s the middle of January and the season ends in April. The sky is not falling, but they have to get their heads out of their butts. They gave that game away. Shameful. I love Pasta as a shooter and I am sure he is a wonderful teammate, but the man cannot stick handle, and makes horrendous decisions with the puck that I would bench a high school player for making. It was great to see them storm back from two down. When they were up by two, they should’ve locked it down with getting pucks deep and a relentless forecheck in the other end. Instead, they can’t clear it out of their own end.

Nothing to do with want. And I won’t bail on my team until they sign someone who is objectively deplorable and I’m in the position where I have to cheer for him. Like I did with the Browns with Watson.

But any hopeful delusions I may have had for this year’s team (if they can only get another top six forward, if Poitras and/or Lysell, when Hampus gets back, etc)? They’re dead. They’ve already fired their coach, who really f***ed us starting the year with one foot out the door, and we’re stuck with the guy with snotty facial tissue for brains.

“We’re in overtime and we have THIS GUY on our team. I think I’ll BENCH HIM.”

If the room wasn’t divided before, it is now. In a CRITICAL game against a team we’re actively fighting with for a playoff spot.

How do they come back from it?

I’ll watch and cheer for the guys I love. But there’s a DNQ on the way, I’m sure of it now. So I’ll have one eye on the draft board all the way.
Was he benched or was he hurt? Edit. I saw the answer. Sheesh.

So a guy with a history of scoring OT goals is benched in OT, see ya Sacco.
Paving the way for a deadline sell off?

idk, first period I thought man this team is bad. No chance of making the playoffs.

Then they bounced back, then they blew the lead, but it had a playoff feel and it reminded me a lot of playing the Panthers with a similar result and a Tkachuk getting under people's skin. They haven't been able to handle a speedy forecheck for years now and nothing's changed.

Bottom line I think we saw one team on the decline and one team on the rise and I think it's pretty obvious which is which.

If they can learn to hit the empty net they win a couple more games, Pasta hits that and game over. They just have a hard time defending a lead late in games, but they were missing their top 2 Dmen.

After they lose on Monday, Leach will be the new head coach.

Hot Take alert.

I wouldn't mind at this point. But giving a Michelin-rated chef random ingredients from Walmart, Publix, and a few from Whole Foods is not putting them into a situation to succeed.

Don needs to make his career-defining decision on this team within the next few weeks.
