Waste of ink, and paper, it was written on.
Can't wait for the next PTO, see if Lysell wants to play here or asks for a trade when he doesn't make the team.

Much more willing to gamble on a Wheeler or Johnson making the team than Lysell who has shown nothing so far in his two pro years. Injuries last year and Brown was called and not Lysell.

Johnson is not an ideal top 9 choice but he is an NHL player, Lysell, Merkulov, etc have not shown that yet.

Ideally Lysell plays well enough that whoever is invited on a PTO isn't offered a contract, let's see what happens come October

He had 50 points in 56 games last year. This whole thing where you’ve decided he’s some selfish malcontent is pretty lame.

Playing on a shitty Hawks team . Not too many thought Heinen was worth a look last year. Let's give it a chance.
Yeah that’s my point. My issue is the chance we’re giving - I don’t agree with it. Sometimes one can react to things without letting everything play out. Hence, the existence of this board,

Matty P to Providence confirmed
No worries.

Poitras can shake off the rust, strengthen his shoulder, get into playing shape, learn to play against bigger, physical opponents, and work on his overall game in Providence.

As much time as needed, or as little.

The Bruins aren't nearly as desperate for help at center as they were last year, nor does Matt's status preclude beginning or spending the entire 2024-2025 season in PRO.

The situation is about as favorable as it can be.

I shall monitor Matthew's progress (ideally) with interest.

His even strength numbers compared to other shitty players on that shitty team were pretty shitty.

He had less goals/60 minutes of play than Joey Anderson and the same as the immortal Cole Guttman.
He was 16th out of 16 Fs who played 200 ES minutes on Assists/60. Yup, the worst on that shitty team.
In 812 even strength minutes he had 3 primary assists. Of the 308 Fs across the league who played at least 700 minutes ES last year, he was 291st in primary assists per 60.

He got pts because he played 177 pp minutes last year, more than Coyle, Geekie, and Debrusk.

It is odd that anyone would have such strong feelings about a PTO. Folks worried about the impact this might have on Lysell or Poitras lack confidence in those players. If they can’t outperform Johnson, they might not deserve a spot in the top 9. It’s that simple. I think Poitras gets PROV time as a precaution anyway - and seems logical. As for Lysell - it’s time for him to take what’s in front of him

As for Johnson, he produces at roughly the same rate as Heinen and JVR - two previous PTO’s. So what’s the issue? Especially if Sweeney needs to move a contract to make room for Swayman, he might need Johnson as a plug in player on the cheap. PTO’s happen every year for various reasons.

Also, FWIW, JVR only scored 5 EV goals last year…

Nothing wrong with it and honestly, he should start there. Pasta started there and look at him now.

Pasta was 18 not 20. There's nothing wrong with a 20 year old in the AHL, but if someone is in the AHL to make room for Tyler Johnson, that's a problem.

Never mind that Johnson isn't even really a C at this point and wouldn't be taking Poitras' spot anyway.

No he doesn't.

Heinen scored at 2 p/60 minutes at ES.
JVR was 1.95

TJ was .8

How many EV goals did JVR score last year? Heinen was certainly the better player LAST YEAR- but look at his stats then year prior…

This is a PTO…

First off, he’s the antithesis of every player they signed in Boston, signed in Providence, or drafted this year.

Second, he was terrible last year and hasn’t been good in a long time.

Third, every shift he takes with Coyle and Marchand in practice or a preseason game is one less for anyone else we’re allowing to compete for that job.

I can’t for the life of me understand the purpose of this.

He won't be a cure like Dr. Recchi. Hopefully not a Gionta or Gagne. He definitely won't be Willi Plett. Maybe a retro Metro. Makes it if he earns it. Maybe he can play goal?
